WAIPA VOLUNTEER AWARDS
Do you know someone who has been contributing
to your sport or activity? Would you like to thank
your parents, coach or team manager? The Waipa
district volunteer awards recognise the fantastic and
breakfast function in Te Awamutu or Cambridge.
Nominations are now open for the Sport
Volunteer Awards 2012 until August 28. The awards
recognise coaches, referees, administrators, fund
Rookie Trainstation
Gym bodybuilder Brendon
O’Byrne has wasted no time
qualifying for the national
championships.
O’Byrne placed second
on debut in a hotly
contested junior men’s division
of the NABBA Waikato
Championships in
Whangamata.
His coach, Mike Smith
says O’Byrne could consider
himself a tad unlucky not to
win. He joins club-mates
Smith, John L’Huillier and
James Walters who had previously
met the national
O’Byrne says he has now
set his sights on going one
better at the Bay of Plenty
Regionals on July 28.
Brandon Reeves was
extremely competitive in the
junior men’s division,
placing fourth after only
three months of training. He
was one of the crowd
favourites with his night routine.
Reeves is now looking for
another competition to enter
in his quest to make the
nationals.
L’Huillier used the Whangamata
competition as a stepping
stone to the nationals.
Trainstation’s Brett
Cullen was an interested
spectator, checking out the
opposition for when he steps
on to the stage for the first
time this year, mid-
September in the hope of
notching a qualifying win.
Over 80 athletes in total
were on show at Whangamata.
Smith says the standard
was very high, with many
former national champions
competing.
