Margy strides to better health
BY CATHY ASPLIN
Margy Lynch generally
sees more cows than people
when she’s out walking — but
it doesn’t deter the Ngahape
Road resident.
She’s out on the country
roads six days a week — in the
cold, rain, hail or shine.
‘‘After having problems
with my back and some other
setbacks in life, I decided to
take matters into my own
hands by walking an hour a
day.
‘‘It began as a way to keep
fit and eventually I started
building up the kilometres.
‘‘A friend encouraged me
to join her in the 12km Hamilton
Lake fun walk last year
and I really enjoyed it.
‘‘So I extended myself
again and my next event was
the Ellerslie Racecourse 21km
event.
‘‘Earlier this year I
completed the ‘big one’ — the
Round Rotorua Lake Marathon.
Completing those 42
kilometres is my biggest
achievement to date and I am
proud of my first marathon
medal at the age of 53.’’
Her personal success
means she now encourages
