vehicle and injured.<br />
Upon requesting<br />
medical aid, fire and<br />
medical personnel responded<br />
and transported<br />
him to Hemet<br />
Valley Medical Center,<br />
where he was later pronounced<br />
dead.<br />
The name of the<br />
suspect is not being<br />
released at this time,<br />
pending further investigation,<br />
according to<br />
HPD Sgt. Quinn.<br />
<strong>Idyllwild</strong> resident<br />
Dennis Byers was heading<br />
to Hemet at about<br />
7 o’clock that night,<br />
witnessed much of the<br />
chase and was nearly<br />
involved in the crash.<br />
As he approached<br />
the mixing station<br />
area, he saw the helicopter<br />
hovering above<br />
the highway. Then a<br />
white van whizzed past<br />
Byers.<br />
“Then four or five<br />
black and whites [police<br />
cars] passed me. They<br />
were only a car length<br />
apart,” Byers said.<br />
As he continued<br />
to Hemet, two more<br />
police cars sped past<br />
him. Near Cranston,<br />
two fire engines were<br />
headed east. Finally, as<br />
he approached the intersection<br />
with Fairview<br />
Avenue, an ambulance<br />
passed him in the direction<br />
of the public safety<br />
vehicles.<br />
