James Campbell<br />

Paul B. von Weckmann of Mile-High Fitness is<br />

shown March 13 at King Kamehameha’s Temple,<br />

Kailua-Kona, on The Big Island, Hawaii, holding<br />

his <strong>Town</strong> <strong>Crier</strong>. He was there for the grand opening<br />

of the expansion of his <strong>Idyllwild</strong>-based health and<br />

wellness business, Hidden You.<br />

Mountain folk<br />

The Steinway Society of Riverside County has<br />

awarded two <strong>Idyllwild</strong> Arts Academy students.<br />

Sophomore Timothy Yu of Shantou, Guangdong,<br />

China, and junior Daphne Honma of Santa<br />

Barbara, were winners in the fifth-annual competition<br />

that culminates with a concert showcasing<br />

the talents of up and coming new musicians at 3<br />

p.m. Sunday, April 19.<br />

The concert venue is at the Indian Wells Theater<br />

on the campus of the California State University,<br />

San Bernardino, 37-500 Cook St., Palm<br />

Desert. This year’s major sponsor is the City of<br />

Indian Wells.<br />

Judges were Ory Shihor, Colburn School of<br />

Music, and Professor Emeritus James Bonn, USC<br />

and international Steinway artist.<br />

The Steinway Society is a 5-year-old nonprofit<br />

organization dedicated to bringing classical music<br />

to all children. The Society presented classical concerts<br />

to more than 9,000 school children last year<br />

in Riverside County and the Coachella Valley …<br />

Gillien Wright celebrated her birthday Tuesday,<br />

March 24.<br />

Café Aroma is asking for a donation of $1 per<br />

order to give to the Tap Project through Sunday,<br />

March 28 in support of World Water Week.<br />

Each donation will provide clean, safe drinking<br />

water to a child in a third world country for 40<br />

days.<br />

Last year, the restaurant raised about $1,000<br />

for the Tap Project. This year’s goal is a minimum<br />

contribution of $500 at the end of the week.<br />

at the side of<br />

his wife of 66<br />

years on Tuesday,<br />

March 17,<br />

2009, in Palm<br />

Springs.<br />

He was born May 17,<br />

1921, in Kendallville, Ind.,<br />

to a family of three brothers<br />

and five sisters.<br />

He was a Purple Heart<br />

veteran of World War II and<br />

the invasion of Normandy.<br />

He was a proud member of<br />

the American Legion Post<br />

800 in <strong>Idyllwild</strong>.<br />

His true passion, however,<br />

was softball. He built several<br />

softball diamonds in his lifetime,<br />

from 1945 in Europe<br />

to Indiana and California,<br />

including a diamond in<br />

<strong>Idyllwild</strong>.<br />

He also started dozens<br />

Jimmy will be missed,<br />

but never forgotten<br />

of leagues and<br />

teams. He is best<br />

remembered on<br />

the Hill for getting<br />

hundreds of<br />

people involved<br />

in his favorite<br />

sport, and continued<br />

into his 70s.<br />

Russ is survived by his<br />

wife, Ella Pauline “Polly”<br />

Loutzenhiser; two daughters,<br />

Cheryl (Howard) Brown and<br />

Beth (Steve) Pachman; a son,<br />

Michael (Sue) Loutzenhiser;<br />

a daughter-in-law, Maria,<br />

Mark Loutzenhiser’s widow;<br />

10 grandchildren; and six<br />

great-grandchildren.<br />

He is preceded in death<br />

by his son, Capt. Mark Loutzenhiser,<br />

U.S. Forest Service.<br />

at home. He was<br />

born Oct. 10,<br />

1962, to Barbara<br />

and Mark Campbell<br />

in Dansville,<br />

Penn. He was<br />

the second of<br />

three boys. They<br />

raised their boys<br />

in Warren, Penn. Jimmy had<br />

a wonderful childhood full<br />

of adventures, snakes and<br />

football.<br />

He attended Slippery Rock<br />

University and received a<br />

degree in business administration.<br />

After university, he lived<br />

outside Washington, D.C., in<br />

Huntington Beach and finally<br />

in Phoenix, where he married<br />

and had four beautiful children.<br />

They are Ashlyn Grace,<br />

13; Brenna Lynn, 12; Cole<br />

Steven, 10; and Declan Ivor,<br />

When Jimmy and his exwife<br />

were expecting Declan,<br />

they moved to <strong>Idyllwild</strong> to be<br />

closer to Kathryn’s family.<br />

Jimmy had<br />

U.S. Forest Service,<br />

and at the<br />

time of his passing,<br />

was <strong>Town</strong><br />

Hall recreation<br />

director.<br />

A celebration<br />

of his life<br />

is scheduled for<br />

1 p.m. Sunday,<br />

March 29, at <strong>Town</strong> Hall. A<br />

lunch reception follows.<br />

He is survived by his children;<br />

his mother, Barbara<br />

Campbell; his older brother,<br />

Mark (Nancy) Campbell Jr.<br />

and their son Tyler; an uncle,<br />

Ken; and numerous beloved<br />

cousins.<br />

He also was a beloved member<br />

of the Boss family. He is<br />

survived on that branch by Pat<br />

and Jan Boss; Gary and Patty<br />

McKee; Don and Sally McKee;<br />

and their respective children.<br />

In lieu of flowers, donations<br />

in his memory be made to the<br />

THE GENEROSITY OF<br />

IDYLLWILD RESIDENTS IS<br />

BOUNDLESS.<br />

Christian Science churches in Southern California<br />

are filling a 40-foot container with bedding,<br />

clothes, musical instruments, children’s books,<br />

school supplies, Bibles, etc., to be shipped to<br />

Africa. The ad is this paper generated an outpouring<br />

of donations. Two trailer loads were<br />

taken to the site of the container. It will leave<br />

Long Beach on April 8th. Arrangements for a<br />

church member in Harare with a semi-truck to<br />

pick up the container have been made. He will<br />

take his precious cargo to Zimbabwe, Zambia<br />

and the Congo. A follow-up letter will be sent<br />

upon completion of the deliveries.<br />

The members of this church wish to thank<br />

our community for its participation in this outreach.<br />

To those Africans in need it will be a<br />

great blessing. If we may quote from the Bible:<br />

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that<br />

there may be meat in mine house, and prove<br />

me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will<br />

not open you the windows of heaven, and pour<br />

you out a blessing, that there shall not be room<br />

enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10.<br />
