“Being far away from my family, my
friends and my hometown is really
very hard to me. (I think all the exchange
teachers share the same feeling.)
But it is worthwhile. In the past
10 months I have taught a different
type of student and worked with a different
type of faculty. I have seen a lot,
learned a lot and experienced a lot.
All these helped me to get a better understanding
of America, its history, its
culture, its school system and its
people. <strong>The</strong>y will definitely help me
to improve my teaching craft when I
go back and teach in China.”
“I’m happy to be together with the
American kids and colleagues here
now. Most of them are very kind and
friendly to me. I like to teach the kids
more Chinese and introduce more
about China if it’s possible. I’m really
glad that the kids and the colleagues
are getting more and more interested
in Chinese and China. It makes me feel
good and valuable to be here.”
“From newspapers I learned a lot. I
know Americans can write almost
everything in newspapers, even
Presidents’ incomes . . . It is very
interesting to learn so much about
America. Whenever I have questions, I
would ask teachers. <strong>The</strong>y complain a
lot about the society, many things.
<strong>The</strong>y, especially history teachers, wish
to go to China to experience the
socialist country.”
“I have a lot of friends here in America.
<strong>The</strong>y take care of me, worry about me,
help and encourage me. <strong>The</strong>y treat me
as if they are my teachers, my brothers
and sisters, and my relatives. <strong>The</strong>y let
me experience different culture so that
I have learnt a lot; they arrange many
different kinds of activities for us, so
that we can have more experience.
“Before I say good-bye, my heart is full
of thanks. I would like to tell them I
lots of thanks to them.”
“Tuesday Geng Wen, Chen Jinfeng and
I went to the school to watch the
graduation ceremony. <strong>The</strong> weather was
fine and the school was full of joy. We
recorded the whole course of the ceremony,
which is almost the same as the
the gown and the hat.”
