“Home is an interesting word, richer
to me now because of a conversation
last weekend in Shanghai. Someone
asked on Saturday when I would go
home. Quite automatically, I said Monday,
at 3:30. My friend’s jaw dropped
and he said, ‘I thought you were here
until August.’ I said that I meant returning
to Yangzhou; then I realized
that I have been so happy and so comfortable
that I have really felt at home
for many months. Is that strange or do
we all slip into that mode”

Programme, during the summer. We
wish her great success and much
satisfaction in her new position.
We welcome Charles Donohoe who
joined us in late June, having studied
Chinese language, history, and
politics at Columbia College.
