By helping Beginning Teachers to achieve their full potential the Induction programme not only supports the Board’s vision of providing ‘a system of education which focuses on the needs of learners’ but also feeds into the Department of Education’s School Improvement Policy, ‘Every School a Good School’ (DE, April 2009) which specifies ‘high quality teaching and learning’ as one of four key characteristics of a good school. Your school will also provide guidance and support on planning, opportunities for classroom observation and regular feedback on practice. It is important to remember that just as you will learn from the wisdom and knowledge of experienced colleagues so the school will also benefit from your skills, enthusiasm, creativity and imagination. The colleagues who will support you in school will be your Teacher Tutor, your Head of Department, or Head of Key Stage, your Principal and/or Vice Principal.
