EFFICIENT WORKING METHOD SAVES TIME
DEKRA experts use four ROVs simultaneously to test
the 30-centimetre-thick steel shell of the reactor vessel
in Ringhals, thus saving time. “Although we are able to
complete the tests in about half the usual ten days, this
system actually increases the quality and precision of
the inspection,” says Olga Motorina. “You have to bear
in mind that shutting down for just one day costs
around half a million euros.” Watching the data appear
on her monitor, Motorina adds that all four ROVs were
developed by DEKRA’ s Swedish subsidiary, DEKRA
Industrial AB.
She designed the test probes herself, which contain
complex measurement technology and fire electrical
or ultrasonic energy pulses, depending on the test, at
the material being inspected. “Abnormal resonances
indicate damage to the metal wall or the welded seams,”
says the engineer. The high-quality test technology and
extensive analytical experience of the team ensure that
the Vattenfall reactor can continue to be safely operated
in the future.
