With almost 2,000 vehicles, BTT was the first DEKRA
customer in the United States to have its fleet checked
by DEKRA America both regularly and on an ad hoc
basis. Another important customer is Consolidated
Chassis Management (CCM), the largest fleet operator
in the US, with more than 138,000 chassis.
The willingness of such companies to voluntarily
perform their own technical inspections is a direct
result of the many roadside checks that take place in
the US every day. Failing a roadside check can result
in immediate impounding of the vehicle. Two million
of such tests are carried out annually by the authorities.
The failure rate is between 20% and 25%.
In addition to vehicle tests to avoid problems on the
highways, DEKRA’ s business activities in the US include
emission testing, appraisals for vehicle manufacturers,
leasing companies, dealers and auction houses,
as well as consulting services.
Having entered the important US market in 2002,
DEKRA is now present in five strategic locations. Its
American headquarters is in the major southern city
of Atlanta, Georgia, with other offices in Dallas/Fort
Worth (Texas), Ventura (California), Detroit (Michigan)
and Hartford (Connecticut). DEKRA America is also
represented in Brookfield, Connecticut, via the
DEKRA-TRS joint venture. The company thus has a
presence in all the major US economic regions.
