Send your info and/or images to: thecrab cracker@wavecable.com TUESDAY, AUGUST 14 pLANS TO RAISE & WIDEN SR 52 & OpEN hOuSE Starting in summer 2013, we’re going to raise and widen the highway west of the new Camano Gateway bridge between Smith and Eide roads and replace the Davis Slough bridge. This will help protect the highway from flooding for many years to come. The work is essentially an extension of the recent improvements between I-5 and the new bridge. Work is expected to wrap up in 2014. The highway and bridge were built more than 60 years ago and are not tall enough or strong enough to withstand storms, high tides and flooding. To give you a better idea of what we’re talking about, check out these pictures of large piles of logs pushed up against the bridge and highway after storms and flooding. We plan raise the overall roadway approximately 5 feet, and we will replace the existing two-lane, 32-foot-wide bridge over Davis Slough with a new 56-foot-wide bridge. The new bridge will have one 12-footwide lane in each direction, a 4-foot-wide median and 14-foot-wide shoulders. It’ll look similar to the Camano Gateway bridge, just not nearly as big. Open house set for Aug. 14th. We’re hosting an open house on Camano Island to share plans and pictures of the project. We’ll be available to answer any questions you might have and provide any additional details you might want. The open house will be from 4-7 p.m. at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road.
