Dear Members,
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
It is my pleasure to present to you the 49 th Annual Report. This has been an eventful year. The season
commenced with a complete overhaul of the Club House facilities. This was brought about by the wonderful
management and staff at Bunnings and the organisational skills and support of our Junior President, Tracey
Hoffmann.
A shipping container was purchased to give us some extra dry storage and is positioned at the end of the Club
House. Plans are under way, subject to cost, to install three sets of shade cloths, each styled in the shape of an
aircraft wing, to cover the area. This area will be used by all as a BBQ, drinking and observation area.
It was at the suggestion of our Coach Nathan Dufty that a Club banner be designed and purchased. This banner
is now proudly displayed on home matches and on official Club functions.
We were successful in obtaining a small government grant thanks to the efforts of our Treasurer Tim Smith.
This money will be allocated towards the purchase of a wicket mower and covers. Tim has gained valuable
experience in this grant application process, which can be rather extensive.
Next season we will be stricter on fees collection as chasing up people for their fees is not only time consuming
but not fair on the members who are disciplined and pay on time. Yes you can pay your fees in instalments,
provided they are not paid in arrears. When you sign on next season please be aware of this arrangement.
I would like to thank our minor sponsors: Pacific Home Loans, Physio Works and Aspley Village Flight Centre
for their continued support, especially during the GFC. Once again, thank you. Obtaining a major sponsor
during such a period was impossible but I am pleased to say that this will change next season with a major
sponsor to be announced soon.
I thank the canteen stalwarts, Sue Barsby and Deirdre Dixon for their ongoing efforts this year. The Club hosted
the under 17 women’s state competition. Sue, Deirdre and their volunteers worked tirelessly to feed 120 people
daily. This effort was acknowledged by Queensland Cricket, who stated that the variety and quality of the food
provided over the five days of the carnival was excellent. You will all see in due time the financial contribution
that the canteen provides to the Club. Sue and Deirdre are keen to contribute some of the canteen funds to the
cost of the shade cloths in the proposed BBQ area.
I thank the small army of volunteers that we have. It is refreshing to see that over the years, the support in this
area is slowly increasing. It is because of our volunteers, be they, coaches, canteen helpers, painters, electricians,
builders, plumbers, concreters, plant operators or general roustabouts, that we can keep our playing fees down to
a manageable level for all and at the same time, present our players with playing facilities that are first class.
I thank my fellow Board members for turning up to meetings and for approaching their respective portfolios
with dedication and enthusiasm.
Charlie Batticciotto
