UNDER 12 WARDEN<br />

<strong>2009</strong>/10 cricket season was a steep learning curve <strong>for</strong> me as coach. Firstly I had never coached cricket be<strong>for</strong>e<br />

and I had a team of players who were mostly, completely new to the game of cricket. The team was supported<br />

by a group of parents who were unable to supply a team manager, regular scorer or constructive help on a<br />

consistent basis!<br />

All that considered the overwhelming enthusiasm that was evident at every training session and maintained<br />

every game was a credit to the young men called under 12 Warden. It is also remarkable that almost every week<br />

we were playing more seasoned teams who have been together <strong>for</strong> a number of years. Never at any stage did<br />

their heads drop or their keenness subside.<br />

We were bolstered early in the season by a couple of recruits that had cricket experience and enabled us<br />

sufficient player numbers to take the field each week. From our early season losses emerged a team that was<br />

always keen to learn and listen to any advice that would help them improve personally or as a team. At season<br />

finish we had actually won a couple of games and were very unlucky on another occasion. They all now<br />

understand the basics of cricket and have a self belief in their own ability to be competitive against any team if<br />

they continue to give maximum ef<strong>for</strong>t under all circumstances.<br />

Everyone without exception improved immensely not only as individual players but as a team committed to<br />

each other and the ethics of cricket.<br />

I would like to personally thank the club and the committee <strong>for</strong> their unwavering support and ef<strong>for</strong>ts and Scott<br />

Estreich <strong>for</strong> helping us setup on our first game it was a great help.<br />

UNDER 12 HOHNS<br />

A fantastic year was had by the team only just losing the last game of the season. All players gave their best<br />

every game. There was ample encouragement <strong>for</strong> each other coming from within the team.<br />

Chris Abbey led the way in the all-rounder stakes with strong contributions with the bat and behind the stumps<br />

and as a result took out the club Intermediate <strong>Cricket</strong>er of the Year trophy. Nathan Earley took out the Leading<br />

Player trophy <strong>for</strong> the team with some fine batting and bowling. First change bowler Avishek Singh took wickets<br />

consistently throughout the season and deservedly took out the bowling trophy after coming very close in<br />

previous years, while Casey Donohue’s consistency with the bat paid off <strong>for</strong> him taking out the batting award.<br />

Rowan Donohue, Luke Squire and Tim White were all consistent with bat and ball and in the field. Jesse<br />

Gollschewsky, Patrick Schostakowski, Mitchell Clarke, Lachlan Hume and Alex Walmsley all put in some<br />

strong per<strong>for</strong>mances throughout the season.<br />

Thanks go to all the parents <strong>for</strong> their vocal support from the sidelines and also <strong>for</strong> getting the boys to games and<br />

training on time every week, you really are a great lot. A special thanks to Scott the team manager who ensured<br />

everything ran smoothly. Many thanks to Andrea <strong>for</strong> her patience and commitment to the weekly chief scorer<br />

position. Matt and Humey undertook umpiring duties throughout the year and their ef<strong>for</strong>ts are much appreciated.<br />

Thanks to Darren <strong>for</strong> training the boys while I was away. Also a big thanks to Tracey and the committee and<br />

Dick <strong>for</strong> their work throughout the year and a big thanks to all the other helpers that make this club a great one<br />

to be part of.<br />

UNDER 13 JURGENSEN<br />

Taking on a number of new players this season saw the Under 13 team end the year in 8th place, but finishing<br />

on top in their last two games. That was not a bad ef<strong>for</strong>t considering many of the boys hadn't played be<strong>for</strong>e. It<br />

was a steep learning curve <strong>for</strong> many of the boys and at the start of the season their goal each game was just to<br />

hold onto their wicket. A struggle at first, but as the season went on they were not just achieving that goal but<br />

scoring runs freely and taking some classic catches.<br />

The boys enjoyed the cricket season and the mateship that comes from playing within a team environment.<br />
