UNDER 12 WARDEN
2009/10 cricket season was a steep learning curve for me as coach. Firstly I had never coached cricket before
and I had a team of players who were mostly, completely new to the game of cricket. The team was supported
by a group of parents who were unable to supply a team manager, regular scorer or constructive help on a
consistent basis!
All that considered the overwhelming enthusiasm that was evident at every training session and maintained
every game was a credit to the young men called under 12 Warden. It is also remarkable that almost every week
we were playing more seasoned teams who have been together for a number of years. Never at any stage did
their heads drop or their keenness subside.
We were bolstered early in the season by a couple of recruits that had cricket experience and enabled us
sufficient player numbers to take the field each week. From our early season losses emerged a team that was
always keen to learn and listen to any advice that would help them improve personally or as a team. At season
finish we had actually won a couple of games and were very unlucky on another occasion. They all now
understand the basics of cricket and have a self belief in their own ability to be competitive against any team if
they continue to give maximum effort under all circumstances.
Everyone without exception improved immensely not only as individual players but as a team committed to
each other and the ethics of cricket.
I would like to personally thank the club and the committee for their unwavering support and efforts and Scott
Estreich for helping us setup on our first game it was a great help.
UNDER 12 HOHNS
A fantastic year was had by the team only just losing the last game of the season. All players gave their best
every game. There was ample encouragement for each other coming from within the team.
Chris Abbey led the way in the all-rounder stakes with strong contributions with the bat and behind the stumps
and as a result took out the club Intermediate Cricketer of the Year trophy. Nathan Earley took out the Leading
Player trophy for the team with some fine batting and bowling. First change bowler Avishek Singh took wickets
consistently throughout the season and deservedly took out the bowling trophy after coming very close in
previous years, while Casey Donohue’s consistency with the bat paid off for him taking out the batting award.
Rowan Donohue, Luke Squire and Tim White were all consistent with bat and ball and in the field. Jesse
Gollschewsky, Patrick Schostakowski, Mitchell Clarke, Lachlan Hume and Alex Walmsley all put in some
strong performances throughout the season.
Thanks go to all the parents for their vocal support from the sidelines and also for getting the boys to games and
training on time every week, you really are a great lot. A special thanks to Scott the team manager who ensured
everything ran smoothly. Many thanks to Andrea for her patience and commitment to the weekly chief scorer
position. Matt and Humey undertook umpiring duties throughout the year and their efforts are much appreciated.
Thanks to Darren for training the boys while I was away. Also a big thanks to Tracey and the committee and
Dick for their work throughout the year and a big thanks to all the other helpers that make this club a great one
to be part of.
UNDER 13 JURGENSEN
Taking on a number of new players this season saw the Under 13 team end the year in 8th place, but finishing
on top in their last two games. That was not a bad effort considering many of the boys hadn't played before. It
was a steep learning curve for many of the boys and at the start of the season their goal each game was just to
hold onto their wicket. A struggle at first, but as the season went on they were not just achieving that goal but
scoring runs freely and taking some classic catches.
The boys enjoyed the cricket season and the mateship that comes from playing within a team environment.
