It was another enjoyable season of cricket for me coaching a great group of young men. The boys all got along
very well as a team. Everyone in the team improved as a cricketer during the season. We played without luck
and several injuries for the most part but worked hard to strive to achieve as a team. All players we able to
participate in all facets of cricket and we finished 6th out of 12 teams. Many thanks go out to all the parents for
their assistance with scoring and warming boys up before games. The biggest thanks go to Tracey Moody for
her tireless work organizing us all as manager and David Dellit for assisting and advising me during the season.
UNDER 14 JOHNSON (1/2 SEASON)
The results, with two wins from 5 games, did not reflect the cricket played. Apart from a poor first innings in the
first match of the season the team was competitive in all its matches. Two matches could have / should have
been won but …there is always next year.
There were some fine individual performances: Hamish Thompson’s undefeated century (scored with a four
through slips off the last ball of the day which was different to the shots that had got him that far) and Jacob
Atkinson’s five for against the team, which eventually won the competition, was as fine a spell of fast bowling
as you will ever see – wickets knocked flying and good batsmen facing him with trepidation. Even though
everyone else chipped in with wickets and / or runs at various times consistency was lacking; that will come
with maturity and practice.
The team was enthusiastic and a pleasure to work with and we wish them all many years of enjoyable cricket.
I would like to congratulate all the players, on another fantastic season, there second as Premiers. I have
watched these guys play since U/10's, and every year, they keep coming up with something special whether it is
bowling, batting or their enthusiasm, and most of all they have become good friends which I think has been the
difference between us and most other sides, and I can't thank the parents and grandparents enough for their
support. A special thanks to David our manager for everything he does. So I will look forward to next season,
hope everyone comes back for the final junior season.
UNDER 16 BEATTIE (1/2 SEASON)
Congratulations to the boys who dominated the competition throughout the season, but, due to the luck of the
draw in the half season competition, we went through undefeated but with the premiership going to a team
who had actually lost a game (that’s sport sometimes). I will not single anybody out, as all boys showed good
ability and contributed at various times and were well led by Scott , this was great ,but, I was more impressed by
the way they gelled together and the high level of enthusiasm they displayed while retaining good
sportsmanship. Interestingly, most boys in this team are underage and eligible to play in this age group next
year but will move, by choice, to the grade ranks where they can commence their senior journey. Many thanks
to Louise and parents who were of enormous help throughout the years and I look forward to seeing many of
these young men progress through the grades in coming years. Again, well done to all and thanks lads for
letting me be your Coach, it has been a pleasure that I will miss.
UNDER 16 WALTERS
With a number of long term players leaving to play in the Taverner’s competition, there were quite a number of
new faces in the Walters team.
The season started well with a number of wins but a few inconsistent performances midseason, meant that there
was great pressure on the team to achieve an outright win at the final match. The players did their best, but it
was not quite enough. Still, the determination and effort applied was a credit to all the boys.
