• Start<strong>in</strong>g at the first knot at one end of the str<strong>in</strong>g, stand<br />

fac<strong>in</strong>g uphill and dig each b as<strong>in</strong> about 15cm (or the<br />

length of your hand) long, 15cm wide, and 15cm deep.<br />

Keep the soil dug from the bas<strong>in</strong> on the downslope side<br />

of the bas<strong>in</strong>, <strong>to</strong> use for cover later on.<br />

Key Pr<strong>in</strong>ciple<br />

Ensure m<strong>in</strong>imum soil disturbance by not till<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Prepare bas<strong>in</strong>s precisely and <strong>to</strong> standard.<br />

Bas<strong>in</strong>s allow you <strong>to</strong> use the correct amounts<br />

of seed and fertilizer at the correct time. This<br />

avoids waste and saves money.<br />

• When the bas<strong>in</strong>s for that row have been made use the<br />

sticks <strong>to</strong> measure the distance <strong>to</strong> the next row. Move<br />

the pegs and stretch out the str<strong>in</strong>g between them.<br />

• Repeat the process of digg<strong>in</strong>g holes. The rows of bas<strong>in</strong>s<br />

can be <strong>in</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e with each other or staggered.<br />
