Tackling educational inequality
Language (EAL)
As was seen in the discussion of pupil level variables, the correlation
between EAL and attainment is marginal compared to that with deprivation
(measured by free school meals) or special educational needs. This
is borne out by figures 30 and 31 which show a low correlation between
school attainment and share of pupils with EAL for London primary and
secondary schools in 2005.
