Getting involved Working as a volunteer The BWY is dependent on the involvement of its Regional Committee members, working as volunteers, to provide a service to its regional membership. It can be a really rewarding, interesting and enjoyable experience. If you are considering becoming a volunteer on your BWY Regional Committee, this information is designed to give you some idea of what is involved. A good committee member: • will commit to preparing for, and attending, regular meetings; • will commit to attending the Regional Annual General Meeting; • will have a good understanding of how the committee works; • is not afraid to ask questions; • agrees to stick to the majority decision; • supports fellow committee members and respects the authority of the Regional Officer as line manager and team leader; • acts as an advocate for BWY. In a good, effective, committee: • each member will understand their role and responsibilities. For each elected position on the committee there is an Operating Procedure explaining these; • there will be a mix of skills, abilities and experience; • each member will respect the confidentiality of information to which they have access, especially regarding members; • each member will use their committee position only to promote BWY and not their own or any other business; • everyone is committed to providing the best service possible to the region’s membership. Expenses incurred by volunteers will be reimbursed, such as travel to attend committee meetings. Your Regional Officer and fellow committee members will give you more information about how they work together. 8 NEWS SOUTH EAST SPRING 2013
GETTING INVOLVED BWY SE Region AGM 6 October 2013: Nomination Form Election of the SE Region Officers takes place annually at the Regional AGM. Nominations are invited for the posts of Regional Officer (RO); Regional Treasurer (RT); and Regional Training Office (RTO). The election of a representative from each county (Kent, Surrey, Sussex) will also take place and nominations are also invited for these posts. Nominations are open to all current members of the BWY SE Region. All post holders have indicated their willingness to continue for another year if no other nominations are received.
