2002 Review and Update<br />

In addition to the seven production assets, there are eight service assets in <strong>PDO</strong>,<br />

which provide technical, analytical, engineering, supply and transportation support to<br />

the production assets. A brief description of the services assets is presented below in<br />

Table 1.2.<br />

Main Activities and Areas of Operation<br />

- Provide geo-services to frontier exploration and production assets for the<br />

identification and development of hydrocarbon reserves within <strong>PDO</strong>’s<br />

concession area<br />

- The areas of technical service include seismic data acquisition & processing;<br />

geological support & laboratory services; geomatics support; sub-surface<br />

information management & technology support; services; and reservoir<br />

characterisation.<br />

- Prepare and update preliminary and detailed designs for new oil wells<br />

throughout <strong>PDO</strong>’s concession area<br />

- Prepare new oil well construction and completion programmes throughout<br />

<strong>PDO</strong>’s concession area<br />

- Construct new oil wells and modifying any existing wells as required<br />

throughout <strong>PDO</strong>’s concession area<br />

- Close out non-producing wells and restore abandoned well sites throughout<br />

<strong>PDO</strong>’s concession area<br />

TERMINAL OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT<br />

- Operate and maintain the Mina Al Fahal Tank Farm consisting of 10 crude<br />

oil storage tanks with a total storage capacity of 5 million barrels<br />

- Operate and maintain the offshore oil export facilities in Mina Al Fahal<br />

consisting of three single point moorings and two coastal buoy moorings<br />

- Operate and maintain the oil export metering systems and offshore oil<br />

pollution combating equipment in Mina Al Fahal<br />

POWER SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT<br />

- Operate and maintain ten power stations consisting of 22 gas turbines<br />

throughout <strong>PDO</strong>’s concession area<br />

- Operate and maintain twenty-two 132 kV substations throughout <strong>PDO</strong>’s<br />

concession area<br />

- Operate and maintain 1276 km long 132 kV overhead electrical transmission<br />

lines throughout <strong>PDO</strong>’s concession area<br />

Gas <strong>Asset</strong><br />

PIPELINE DEPARTMENT<br />

- Operate and maintain 1510 km long main oil line for transportation of liquid<br />

hydrocarbons from all production assets to the export terminal in Mina Al<br />

Fahal<br />

- Operate and maintain 670 km long south Oman gas line for transportation of<br />

dry sweet gas hydrocarbons from Saih Nihayda (Qarn Alam <strong>Asset</strong>) to<br />

Marmul asset<br />

- Operate and maintain the main oil line booster stations in Hubara (Nimr<br />

<strong>Asset</strong>), Sahma (Bahja <strong>Asset</strong>) and Nahada (Fahud <strong>Asset</strong>)<br />

- Operate and maintain, on behalf of the government, gas treatment facilities<br />

(government gas plant, government butane plant and butane storage and<br />

loading facility) in Yibal<br />

- Operate and maintain, on behalf of the government, liquefied natural gas<br />

upstream facilities in Saih Rawl, Barik and Saih Nihayda<br />

- Operate and maintain, on behalf of the government, natural gas pipeline<br />

system from Yibal to Murayat (296 km long), from Murayat to Al Ghubra<br />

(29 km long) and from Murayat to Sohar (225 km long) as well as spur lines<br />

- Operate and maintain, on behalf of the government, pressure reducing<br />

terminals for natural gas customers throughout Oman<br />
