Requirements<br />
- Restored land shall be visually similar to the surrounding landscape<br />
- All waste materials shall be removed<br />
- Hydrocarbon shall be removed from site if concentrations greater than<br />
1% weight<br />
- Areas having less than 1% weight hydrocarbon contamination shall be<br />
covered with 0.6m of clean sand within 6 months of abandonment<br />
- All pipelines, process equipment and instrumentation shall be removed<br />
- All camp facilities shall be removed and site re-graded. Any soak pits<br />
shall be backfilled<br />
- Borrow pits shall be filled with 0.3m of clean sand and graded to match<br />
the surrounding contours<br />
2.4.10 NORM Waste Disposal<br />
Oil sludges, pigging wastes, tubulars and water/well accessories from reservoir<br />
locations are known to contain NORM materials. The monitoring, handling, transport,<br />
storage, treatment and disposal of NORM wastes are specified under SP-1170<br />
“Specification for Management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials”. This<br />
specification conforms to MD 249/97, “ Regulations for the Control and Management<br />
of Radioactive Materials”. Any waste having radioactivity greater than 100 Bq/g (for<br />
solids) and 100 kBq/L (for liquids) is classified as radioactive waste. Such waste shall<br />
be sent to <strong>PDO</strong>’s dedicated storage facility in Zauliyah as soon as possible. Normal<br />
transport vehicles can be used. However, the waste shall be packaged as per the<br />
detailed procedures given in the specification. Any recyclable items shall be released<br />
only after they are decontaminated by an authorised contractor at the designated site,<br />
such that the radioactivity level is reduced to
