NCQLP to “Roast” Howard Brandston The NCQLP at its annual LIGHTFAIR LC Luncheon will roast lighting industry luminary Howard M. Brandston, LC, FIES, FCIBSE, FIALD. Section News New York Section Bill Warren, Frank Lorenz, Clarence Tsung and William Soddard discussed New York City code changes that affect lighting, lighting controls, and lighting energy conservation on January 8. An in depth analysis of emergency lighting and code requirements for NYC and the tri-state area was given by John Bredehorst. Garry Myers also covered the new ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 requirements concerning lighting, controls, and power density. Golden Gate Section In November, Alfredo Zaparolli, partner at TECHLINEA LLC, explained how to integrate the electronic home with lighting, communications, security, home entertainment, energy management and home networking. Lighting designer Ray Grenald, lectured on his career and professional philosophies on January 14. Memphis Section The Pyramid Arena, home of NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies, was illuminated by Light It Up: The Downtown Illumination Project, a not-for-profit organization founded to enhance the image of downtown Memphis. The Section toured the Arena in December. Cleveland Section In January, Terry McGowan addressed light and human health, covering such topics as: new medical applications of light, using light to treat mental disorders, therapeutic lighting, human circadian rhythms, light and the aging eye, and the hazards of UV. Maryland Section In January, Fred Oberkircher reviewed the latest developments in the effect of light and color on human health and performance. Western New England Section The Annual Awards Gala honored Thomas Hannigan on January 16 with the LLAA (Lighting Industry Achievement Award). Western New York Section On January 14, John F. Daly reviewed holistic sustainable design and the lighting designer, focusing on new sustainable design technologies like displacement ventilation, daylight harvesting, raised floor system fuel cells, indoor air quality and active climate facades. Mid Hudson Valley Section “Lighting Bloopers” was the January theme – from the humorous to the dangerous, dramatic things that can happen with lighting when details are overlooked.
