The Pyramid Arena, home of NBA’s<br />
Memphis Grizzlies, was illuminated by<br />
Light It Up: The Downtown Illumination<br />
Project, a not-for-profit organization<br />
founded to enhance the image of downtown<br />
Memphis. The Section toured the<br />
Arena in December.<br />
Cleveland Section<br />
In January, Terry McGowan addressed<br />
light and human health, covering<br />
such topics as: new medical applications<br />
of light, using light to treat mental<br />
disorders, therapeutic lighting,<br />
human circadian rhythms, light and the<br />
aging eye, and the hazards of UV.<br />
Maryland Section<br />
In January, Fred Oberkircher reviewed<br />
the latest developments in the<br />
effect of light and color on human<br />
health and performance.<br />
Western New England Section<br />
The Annual Awards Gala honored<br />
Thomas Hannigan on January 16 with<br />
the LLAA (Lighting Industry Achievement<br />
Award).<br />
Western New York Section<br />
On January 14, John F. Daly reviewed<br />
holistic sustainable design and the lighting<br />
designer, focusing on new sustainable<br />
design technologies like displacement<br />
ventilation, daylight harvesting,<br />
raised floor system fuel cells, indoor air<br />
quality and active climate facades.<br />
Mid Hudson Valley Section<br />
“Lighting Bloopers” was the January<br />
theme – from the humorous to the dangerous,<br />
dramatic things that can happen<br />
with lighting when details are overlooked.<br />
