Remember in Prayer
As members of the parish faith community, it is our
responsibility to remember both in concrete and
spiritual ways those who cannot celebrate with us
each week because they are ill. Those who are sick in
turn, remember all of us daily in their prayers and in their
sufferings. We experience many blessings because of
their remembering us. And so...please remember in your
prayers:
A Prayer for the
Armed Forces
Almighty God, stretch forth Your
mighty arm to strengthen and protect
the men and women of our Armed Forces. As they
face the myriad of challenges and decisions that each
day is destined to bring, may they be anchored by their
faith, protected by Your presence and comforted by the
knowledge that they are loved by You and by this community
of faith. Grant that, meeting danger with courage,
and all occasions with discipline loyalty, they may
truly serve the cause of justice and peace to the honor of
your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE CATHOLICS FOR NONVIOLENCE
In the face of the escalating violence in the world
around us, the Pledge of Nonviolence offers individuals,
families, faith communities and schools a way of
promoting love, compassion and nonviolence each
day, making nonviolence a
much more accessible reality
to individuals, groups, and
whole communities. The
seven components of the
Pledge offer each individual
dozens of opportunities each
day to create a culture of
peace in their own lives and
communities, a culture that
will be the realization of
God's will for the world --
the peaceable kingdom or
beloved community where
all are one (John 17: 21) and
where all creation is reunified
in Christ (Ephesians 1:
10). The ways that make for
peace have been articulated in a unique way in the
School, Youth, Family, and Parish Pledges of Nonviolence.
For more on the Pledge of Nonviolence and the ways it is
tied to the vision of Catholic Social Teaching, visit the Institute's
web site at www.ipj-ppj.org.
The Catholics for Nonviolence Pledge
Faithful to the transforming vision of Jesus Christ and
no longer willing to accept violence in our homes, on
our streets, or in our global
community,
• I pledge to practice
Gospel Nonviolence to
heal the violence and conflict
in our lives, our families,
our parishes, our communities,
and throughout
all of God’s creation;
• I pledge to cultivate
peace by proclaiming the
Christian message of healing
and hope, of renewal
and reconciliation, of life
and love to all people;
• I pledge to address the root causes of violence that
continues to affect people throughout the Archdiocese
of Chicago so that we can end the cycle of
violence and create a more just and peaceful city
and world.
KATOLICY WOBEC PRZEMOCY
„Dom - azyl, miejsce gdzie można czuć się bezpiecznie.
Kiedy do jego wnętrza wdziera się łapa przemocy - już
nie ma gdzie się, schować. Jej pazury pozostawiają ślady
na całe życie.”
Dorośli - rodzice, wychowawcy
często są
sprawcami problemów
wychowawczych czy
też przemocy w rodzinie.
To ich postawy
kształtują zachowanie -
najpierw małych, a potem
coraz większych
dzieci.
Wychowanie dzieci jest sztuką ogromnie trudną. Niewątpliwie
pasjonującą i dającą satysfakcje tym rodzicom,
którzy kochają swoje dzieci mądrą miłością.
Mądra miłość rodzicielska jest gwarantem powodzenia
w wychowaniu. Gdyby każdy z nas miał świadomość
czym charakteryzuje się dobra rodzina , w sensie psychologicznym
- nie byłoby tylu przypadków krzywdzenia
własnych dzieci.
Przyrzeczenie Katolików na rzecz Działań bez
Przemocy
Wierny przemieniającej wizji Jezusa Chrystusa i odrzucający
przemoc w naszych domach, na naszych ulicach
i w naszych globalnych środowiskach:
• Przyrzekam postępować w
myśl Ewangelii bez Przemocy, by
zaniechać przemocy i konfliktom
w naszym życiu, naszych rodzinach,
naszych parafiach, środowiskach
i wszędzie, tam, przebywa
stworzenie boże;
• Przyrzekam wprowadzać pokój
głosząc chrześcijańskie przesłanie uzdrowienia
i nadziei, odrodzenia i pojednania, życia i miłości
wobec wszystkich ludzi;
• Przyrzekam przeciwdziałać podstawowym przyczynom
przemocy, która dotyka wszystkich mieszkańców
Archidiecezji Chicago, aby przerwać istniejący
cykl przemocy i tworzyć miasto i świat, w których
panuje większa sprawiedliwość i pokój.
KROPLA TEOLOGII
(Theology on Tap)
Kropla Teologii to spotkania dla osób w
wieku 20 – 40 lat. Praktycznie jednak zaproszeni są
wszyscy, którzy czują się młodo i pragną porozmawiać
wspólnie na tematy i problemy, dotyczące
młodych ludzi.
Spotkania te
gromadzą młodych,
którzy są
w trakcie studiów,
lub już je
ukończyli, ale
nadal poszukują
odpowiedzi na
wiele pytań pojawiających
się
w ich codziennym
życiu.
Spotkania polskiej
edycji Theology
on Tap
odbywają się od 2005 roku w parafii św. Tomasza
Becketa w Mount Prospect. Odbywające się w każdą
kolejną niedzielę lipca nadal potwierdzają fakt,
że żyjemy w Kościele powszechnym, gdzie każda
kultura uczy nas czegoś pożytecznego. Równocześnie
tworzą one okazję, aby spełniać nasze powołanie
do bycia świadkami Chrystusa.
Co roku na zakończenie, wszystkie grupy z Archidiecezji
Chicago, które uczestniczą w spotkaniach
w trzech językach: po angielsku, hiszpańsku i polsku,
uczestniczą wraz z kard. Franciszkiem Georg’em
we wspólnej Mszy św. w katedrze w Chicago.
Po uroczystej Eucharystii wszyscy spotykają
się na wspólnym pikniku.
Pierwsze spotkanie w tym roku to niedziela 11 lipca
o godz. 6:00 wieczorem. Szczególowy harmonogram
tegorocznych spotkań znajdziemy w najbliższym
wydaniu KATOLIKA w przyszlym tygodniu.
• Czy spodziewasz się potomstwa
• Czy chciałabyś się dowiedzieć więcej na temat
rozwoju Twojego dziecka
• Czy masz pytania jak zadbać o siebie w czasie
ciąży
• Czy wiesz jakie pytania
zadawać lekarzowi
• Czy potrzebujesz
opieki nad dziećmi
gdy powrócisz do
pracy lub szkoły
• Czy chciałabyś być
częścią grupy wsparcia
dla matek takich
jak Ty
ON FIREWORKS, AND SITTING IN THE BISHOP’S CHAIR
© 2010 by John B. Reynolds (john@jrwrites.com)
I hope to see some fireworks on the 4th of July weekend, but if
I don’t, at least I saw a great display this past Saturday night.
My wife was driving north on the Tri-State--we were returning
from a birthday party in Springfield for my mother-in-law combined
with an anniversary party for my sister Mary and her
husband--when Gail pointed out the fireworks going off in the
distance. We couldn’t hear the booms, but like I said, the light
show was excellent.Actually, I was in the state capitol two
weeks ago as well for another celebration. No fireworks coming
or going, but the event was worthy of them, because on
June 22 nd , I found myself (again with my sister) in the Cathedral
Church of the Immaculate Conception as the Most Reverend
Thomas Paprocki was installed as the ninth bishop for the
Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. I’ve had the opportunity to
attend a few high-churchly events in the past, and as I watched
the deacons, priests, and bishops come up the aisle that day, I
thought the same thing I always think at such times: who’s running
all of the churches Pomp and circumstance is one of the
things I really enjoy about Catholicism, and it was on full display
at the installation, which, I told Mary, was akin in some
ways to a graduation: procession, colorful robes, palpable excitement.
And the excitement grew even more palpable as the
Mass itself got underway with Francis Cardinal George blessing
us, Msgr. Carl Kemme (the diocesan administrator at the
time) welcoming us, and Rome’s US delegate reading Benedict
XVI’s apostolic letter naming Paprocki to the diocese. And yet
none of these activities was grander than: Sitting in the
Bishop’s Chair. Here, per the program, “the metropolitan
bishop (Cardinal George) gives the new bishop the pastoral
staff and invites him to sit in the bishop’s chair, the cathedra…
It is a sign of his teaching office and the place from which he
leads the faithful in prayer.” I’ve long held that one of the coolest
things about Paprocki is that he really enjoys his work. This
was again evident as he accepted the staff--and the nod--from
George and took his seat. Then, seeing his infectious smile, the
thousand or so people in the pews (we were all sitting at the
time) arose in unified applause. The sitting bishop was officially
home.In today’s Gospel, we hear of Jesus appointing
new disciples and sending them into the world, saying, “The
harvest is abundant but the laborers are few…Go on your way;
behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves…Whatever
town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before
you, cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God
is at hand for you…’” Jesus installed the seventy-two that day,
just as he--via the hands of Cardinal George--installed Bishop
Paprocki in Springfield, and just as he installs each of us everyday
to spread the Good News. Who’s running all of the
churches My friends, we are the Church, and with Paprocki
and his fellow sitting bishops to guide us, our mission is assured.
