There is nothing at all subtle about this Syrah. It overwhelms with blackberry pie, cassis and chocolate-coated cherry candy flavors, with licorice and white pepper overtones, and is also big in tannins, although they’re ripe and sweet. Racy acidity saves the day and keeps it from being a fruit bomb. This wine would make him proud. The color is very dense ruby-purple. The nose is exotic with soft flowers, smokiness, and it changes with each breath. An aggressive fore-palate leads to creamy, luscious flavors of exotic fruits with a perfect balance of acidity and richness. This was achieved by a modest dose of Syrah, that cut the acidity and added meaty qualities to the explosive fruit. The addition of Mourvedre aids in bringing the wine back to earth with subtle hints of pepper and garden herbs. This wine can be enjoyed by itself or with any robust spice driven meal.
