Population in Southern Nevada Nevada, and specifically Clark County, has experienced significant population growth over the years. For example, the nationwide population grew at an average annual rate of 1.0 percent from 2000- 2003. In Nevada, the average annual growth rate during that period was 4.3 percent, while in Clark County; growth was even faster at 4.7 percent. For example, Las Vegas has been host to over 35 million visitors every year since 2000. In 2003, the number of visitors was just over 35.5 million. Based Page 19
on an average length of stay of 3.4 nights per visitor, this adds 331,059 visitors to the annual population of Las Vegas. Mesquite and Laughlin also play host to a large number of visitors. In 2003 Mesquite had 1.7 million visitors, while Laughlin had 4.2 million visitors. This equates to a total visitor population of 41.4 million to Clark County. A source of projected population data at a smaller geographic area than the county is at the traffic analysis zone (TAZ). Population projections by TAZ are calculated by the Southern Nevada Regional Transportation Commission. The following map shows population concentrations in the greater Las Vegas area for 2003 by TAZs. Currently, the data show that the population in the Las Vegas region is denser in the western region. The city with the largest growth from 2002 to 2003 was North Las Vegas.
