What is FAI<br />
The Fondo Ambiente Italiano<br />
commonly referred to in English<br />
as the “Italian National Trust<br />
is a not-for-profit private-law<br />
foundation, recognised as a<br />
legal entity by the President of<br />
the Italian Republic (Presidential<br />
Decree No. 941 of 3.12.1975).<br />
Our exclusive purpose is to<br />
educate the general public on the<br />
importance of defending Italy’s<br />
environment and artistic and built<br />
heritage.<br />
We operate in the interest of all<br />
those who care deeply about<br />
Italy’s cultural and natural<br />
heritage.<br />
FAI’s mission<br />
FAI - not just an acronym, but also<br />
a part of the Italian verb “FARE”,<br />
meaning “to do”, “to be active<br />
FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano is a<br />
nationwide, not-for-profit foundation<br />
that was founded in 1975 with a<br />
concrete objective: to act in order to<br />
safeguard Italy’s artistic and natural<br />
heritage. This commitment sees FAI<br />
engaged in:<br />
PROTECTING AND ENHANCING<br />
FAI restores and (re)opens to the<br />
public a wealth of uniquely Italian<br />
monuments and landscapes that have<br />
been entrusted to it.<br />
EDUCATING AND RAISING<br />
AWARENESS<br />
FAI works day in, day out to educate<br />
and raise the awareness of the<br />
public with a view to increasing<br />
their knowledge of, respect for and<br />
dedication to art and nature, which are<br />
among the defining elements of Italy’s<br />
national identity.<br />
SUPERVISING AND INTERVENING<br />
FAI serves as the spokesperson for<br />
the interests and expectations of the<br />
public, supervising and pro-actively<br />
intervening on their behalf across the<br />
country to defend Italy’s landscape<br />
and cultural assets.<br />
