Secondary School Weekly Bulletin Monday 21 st May – Volume 1, Issue 28 cover the words to check that I know them. • MFL Dpt: Have you had many chances to use French Do you find it useful • Dalia: Yes, in Quebec, French Canada, everybody speaks it, not only in France. I’ve used it there a lot. • What advice would you give to people who are thinking of learning the language • Dalia: I would say to them that it is fun, it sounds nice and it is not as difficult as it seems, especially if you know Spanish or are studying it you will find it much easier as many words are similar or nearly the same. You can also listen to French music or watch some French films and this will really help you. Mr. S.Ortiz – Head of MFL The Maths Department would like to ask for donations for our Bottle Tombola at the May Fair. If you can spare a bottle of drink, e.g. Coke, Wine, Spirits, even Squash, then please either leave it at Reception or give it to Mr. MacInnes. We will happily accept donations right up to the end of the school day on Friday. We really appreciate your support. Mr. Iain MacInnes – Maths Department The Costa del Sol International Colleges Athletics Championship The Athletics Championship was one of the biggest inter school events held on the Costa del Sol, with 12 International schools participating. Congratulations to Laude for taking 4 th place, it was a great achievement and a memorable experience for all our students. Well done to our gold medal winners, Markian Benhamou - 800m, Javier Flood -100m, Cesar Gonzalez - Triple Jump and Ella Petersen - High Jump. Miss O.Garcia - Head of PE Laude Students Work Published in Global Poetry Anthology The Maths Department would like to congratulate Álvaro Páez, Markian Benhamou, Natalia Mirón and Marcos Díaz for topping the school in their respective year groups in the assessment tests we ran on Monday. These students are certainly setting the standard for the others to follow - well done! Mr. Paul Teale – Head of Maths The Athletics Championship held in Benalmadena was a magnificent and successful event. It gave hundreds of children the opportunity to compete against each other with a spirit of determination and a high level of performance. Secondary School Weekly Bulletin Monday 21 st May – Volume 1, Issue 28 The successful entrants have had their work published and the resulting anthology ‘Express Yourself’ includes poems from across the globe. Indeed ‘Express Yourself’ is a showcase for secondary pupils to share their creativity and inspiration and features themes including touching accounts of friendship and family to humorous rhymes on the trials of being young: each poem is a unique portrait of the thoughts and feelings of our young writers. Furthermore, seeing their work in print is highly motivating and will definitely encourage students to keep on writing. Congratulations to the following students who produced outstanding work : Daria Stepanova, Millie Sprenger, Jade Ma Orefici, Cesar Gonzalez Prados, Miranda Estradas, Ryan Boswell and India Rose Sockett. OLYMPIC LEARNER COMPETITION The Olympic Learner competition, initiated a couple of months ago in Secondary, came to its conclusion last Thursday morning in assembly, when all 35 winners were given the chance to enter the Prize draw. The lucky students pictured above were the 16 students to have their name randomly drawn from the “Prize box”. Each of them was asked to choose their favourite prize from a list. The excitement levels reached an all time high during this long awaited event!
