UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA <strong>RETIREMENT</strong> <strong>PLAN</strong> ARTICLE 1 EFFECTIVE DATE, SCOPE, AND PURPOSE 1.01 EFFECTIVE DATE The University of California Retirement Plan (Plan) is revised as of January 1, 1989. 1.02 SCOPE This Plan is adopted this 1st day of January 1989 as a successor plan to that plan which became effective on July 1, 1971 (1971-1988 Plan) and the plan which became effective before July 1, 1971 (1961-1971 Plan). The Plan shall consist of the University of California Retirement Plan. The provisions set forth in this Plan are applicable only to Eligible Employees of the University and its affiliate on or after its effective date. Affiliate means Hastings College of the Law. 1.03 PURPOSE The primary purpose of this Plan is to provide retirement income to Eligible Employees of the University of California and their beneficiaries. The Plan is created and maintained for their exclusive benefit and is intended to be permanent and ongoing. The Regents, however, reserve the right to amend or terminate the Plan at any time in accordance with Section 11.11. September 2004 13
