University of California Retirement Plan Article 2
2.18
DOMESTIC PARTNER
Effective July 1, 2002, a Domestic Partner means an individual with
respect to whom the following requirements are met:
(a) Such individual is designated by an Active, Disabled, or Inactive
Member as a Domestic Partner by one of the following methods:
(i) The domestic partnership of such individual and Member is
registered with the State of California, and a copy of the
applicable valid State registration form(s) is filed with the
University, or
(ii) A valid Declaration of Domestic Partnership, University of
California Retirement Plan, or such other form as required by
the University, is filed by such Member with the University,
and supporting documentation that demonstrates the
existence of the domestic partnership at the time of filing is
provided to the University by the Member in accordance with
the Plan Regulations.
(b) On the date of and at all times after Section 2.18(a) is met, the
Member and the individual designated as his or her Domestic
Partner satisfy the following requirements:
(i) Each is the other’s sole Domestic Partner in a long-term,
committed relationship and intends to remain so indefinitely
(ii) Neither is legally married, and they are not related by blood to
a degree of closeness that would prohibit legal marriage in the
State of California
(iii) Each is age 18 or older and has the ability to consent to the
relationship
(iv) They reside together and intend to reside together indefinitely
(v) They are financially interdependent
(c) The filing of any form or documentation with the University under this
Section 2.18 shall be subject to the requirements set forth in the
Plan Regulations. The University may add additional requirements
or procedures for establishing the eligibility of a Domestic Partner in
the Plan Regulations. An individual shall not be a Domestic Partner
unless such requirements are satisfied with respect to such person.
