TERMINATION OF ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP<br />

3.08<br />

INACTIVE MEMBERSHIP<br />

Active membership in the Plan shall terminate as of the effective date of<br />

a Break in Service.<br />

An Active Member who:<br />

(a) has at least five years of Service Credit;<br />

(b) has attained age 62 regardless of Service Credit and who became a<br />

Member of the Plan on or before July 1, 1989;<br />

(c) is eligible for reciprocity as provided by Section 12.08;<br />

(d) was medically separated from University employment under<br />

applicable University policy and is eligible to apply for Disability<br />

Income under Articles 5, 6, 7, or 8; or<br />

(e) is a faculty member of a University medical school and has been appointed<br />

by the Veterans Administration to a University affiliated<br />

hospital and as a result, receives no further Covered Compensation,<br />

shall, upon a Break in Service, be eligible to elect to become an Inactive<br />

Member in the Plan.<br />

In order to retain Inactive Membership an Inactive Member is required to<br />

leave any Accumulations on deposit with the Plan.<br />

An Inactive Member shall be entitled to elect Retirement Income as<br />

provided by Articles 5, 6, 7, or 8 and subject to Section 2.48 or to elect a<br />

Lump Sum Cashout subject to Section 2.33 or Refund of Accumulations,<br />

as applicable, as provided by Section 4.08.<br />

The Plan Administrator, at its option, shall commence payments to<br />

Inactive Members who have attained age 70.<br />
