We enjoyed the Koru from Plinius for<br />
many reasons. While not an inexpensive<br />
phonostage, it is a jewel in that big dead<br />
zone between about $2,500 and $10,000,<br />
where there are few top performers.<br />
The Koru ticks all the right boxes, with<br />
its massive power supply (which is physically<br />
isolated from the rest of the chassis), killer<br />
dynamic range and dead quiet solid-state<br />
design. It offers up a substantial helping of<br />
$10K phonostage performance, all wrapped<br />
in a very hip enclosure that has become the<br />
hallmark of current Plinius lineup.<br />
However, the Koru’s single input makes<br />
it better suited to the more monogamous<br />
audiophile who stays true to a single table<br />
and cartridge. Gain is set from inside and<br />
the loading is set on the rear panel—you<br />
can’t adjust this one from the comfort of<br />
your Eames lounge chair. But that’s just<br />
fine, if you’re an analog lover who wants<br />
performance at a more approachable price.<br />
