Well, there’s no<br />

stairway yet, but Jimmy Page informed<br />

us in a recent press conference that<br />

he is going to oversee the rest of the<br />

Led Zeppelin catalog and release it in<br />

the same grandiose fashion achieved<br />

on the recently released Super Deluxe<br />

Edition reissues of the band’s first three<br />

records. Yes, $140 is a lot of money for<br />

a single album, but there is quite a bit<br />

more included with the price—namely, a<br />

“companion” album featuring outtakes,<br />

matching CDs of the original and<br />

companion album, 24/96 downloads,<br />

a book and memorabilia.<br />

Using the original analog masters,<br />

Page worked with Metropolis mastering<br />

in London, trying to get as much information<br />

as possible out of tapes now<br />

more than 45 years old. Analog enthusiasts<br />

often talk about tape degradation,<br />

and I suspect that’s probably a big part<br />

of what’s happened to these classic<br />
