The Meridian 501 hit the audio scene around the<br />
turn of the century, with a four figure price tag. Many<br />
of their current styling cues are in place, albeit in a<br />
smaller enclosure than todays Meridian gear, and<br />
we can see a distant cousin of the massive, square<br />
remote controls that comes with current product.<br />
For just under 300 bucks, it’s not a bad anchor<br />
for a budget system, with multiple inputs and two<br />
variable line level outputs, as well as a headphone<br />
jack on the rear panel. Ironically, it features a MM<br />
and MC phonostage—a commitment to the analog<br />
world that Meridian has long since abandoned.<br />
