Western and Eastern Europe UMPG UK HAS 15 NO.1 ALBUMS AND 55 TOP TEN ALBUMS AS WELL AS 4 OUT OF THE 5 TOP SELLING SINGLES OF THE YEAR! U.K. HAS 11 NO. 1 SINGLES AND 72 TOP TEN SINGLES!!!! WESTLIFE’s current album, Coast to Coast, (released on Nov. 6, 2000) has sold 1.5 million copies to date in the UK and central Europe. Their debut album, Westlife, has now sold 3.4 million copies worldwide. The band’s last 7 singles have been No. 1 hits. Westlife mania shows little sign of waning with 38 sold out dates this year. Additionally UMPG writers Steve Mac (signed via Rokstone Music) and Wayne Hector wrote 7 songs on their current album, including their Christmas single, “What Makes A Man.” ALL SAINTS’ single, “Pure Shores,” was the biggest UK single in 2000 as it was No. 1 in the UK for 3 weeks selling over 700,000 copies. Their current No 1 album, Saints & Sinners, has sold 1.2 million copies. All Saints’ selftitled debut album has now sold 6 million copies worldwide. UMPG writers Tom Nichols and Alex Von Soos (signed via Good Grooves Music) wrote their recent No. 1 hit, “Black Coffee.” TOPLOADER, the guitar band signed to S2/Sony Records, saw their debut album, Onka’s Big Moka, go platinum in the UK. Sales to date exceed 600,000 copies. The band will be supporting Robbie Williams on his European tour. RONAN KEATING’s No. 1 album, Ronan, has sold 870,000 copies in the UK and 1.8 million copies worldwide. Ronan supported Elton John at his recent Madison Square Gardens gig and recorded “Your Song” with him for his new ‘Live’ album. GUY SIGSWORTH co-wrote Madonna’s third single “What It Feels Like For A Girl” and has a possible 5 songs on Bjork’s up and coming album. SPILLER’s single, “Groovejet,” was a No. 1 hit in the UK, Australia and New Zealand with the single selling over 600,000 copies in the UK and 120,000 in Germany. FRAGMA’s “Togas Miracle” spent two weeks at No. 1 in the UK selling 550,000 units. MADISON AVENUE’s single, “Don’t Call Me Baby” landed another UK No. 1. The Australian act signed to the UK company worldwide has sold over 310,000 copies in the UK alone. TRUESTEPPER’s single, “Out Of Your Mind” (featuring Victoria Beckham and Dane Bowers), yielded a No. 2 hit in the UK selling over 500,000 copies. VP Europe/M.D. UK Paul Connolly signed Sonique to a worldwide publishing deal in Oct. 2000 aided by Kim Frankiewicz. Sonique has sold over 1 million albums worldwide. Frankiewicz commented: “When I met Sonique a year ago I realized instantly she is a tremendous talent.” Sonique further commented: “I am excited that Universal has given me a chance as an artist and a writer, so let’s get with it.” Pictured at the signing (left to right) are Kim Frankiewicz, VP of International; Paul Connolly, UMPG Executive VP Europe/Managing Director UK; and Sonique. HOLLAND NEWS: VENGABOYS’ -- Their 2000 release, The Platinum Album, has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide. The album is due for a US release in March on Atlantic Records. The Vengaboys are the most successful act to come out of Holland after Andre Rieu (also a UMPG writer). ALICE DEEJAY -- UMPG Holland’s Breakout Artist of the Year -- Their single, “Better Off Alone,” started out as a club tune and resulted in single sales of nearly 2 million. The CD, Who Need Guitars Anyway, has sold 1 million copies worldwide. BIG BROTHER -- Big Brother, the immensely successful TV show was a Dutch concept which was sold around the world. The theme song, “Leef,” was used almost everywhere. The single was No. 1 in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany for several weeks, selling 700,000 copies in Germany. BJORK Having sold more than 8 million albums in her solo career, Bjork’s latest album, Selmasongs, the soundtrack to the winner of the Palme d’Or Cannes 2000 “Dancer In The Dark,” has sold more than 600,000 copies worldwide. Her starring role in the film won her Best Female Performance at the Cannes 2000 International Film Festival and has stimulated sales and a flurry of other awards. Her latest project entitled, Domestika, which is being produced by Bjork, is tentatively slated for release around Oscar time, as it is speculated she has strong possibilities for Best Actress nomination. Western and Eastern Europe FRANCE NEWS: MODJO’s single, “LADY,” was a No. 1 hit in 7 territories selling 1.2 million units worldwide. A new single and album are expected in the first quarter of this year. ROMEO & JULIET Writer Gerard Presqurvic’s first single, “Aimer,” from the musical “Romeo & Juliet” was released in April. It sold over 800,000. The second single, “Les rois du monde,” went to No 1 and stayed there for 4 months and sold over 1.3 million copies. The album went to No 2 and has sold over 1 million units to date. GERMANY NEWS: ZOMBIE NATION ‘KERNKRAFT 400’ German signing, Zombie Nation went to No 2 in the UK, selling over 300,000 and a top ten hit in Germany, Holland and France. The CD, Kernkraft 400, also went to No 5 on Billboard’s Maxi- Singles Sales Chart. SPAIN NEWS: MIGUEL BOSE Singer, songwriter, actor, presenter, TV producer & one of Spain’s biggest artists, Miguel Bose has released 25 albums in his career, selling over 10 million units. His last Greatest Hits CD sold over 1 million copies and reached No. 1 in Spain and Latin America. ITALY NEWS: ZUCCHERO Although Zucchero needs no introduction, Zucchero is one of the most successful Italian artists, having sold 10 million albums to date.
