LOY FEY HUEI<br />
Loy has been signed by UMPG Taiwan<br />
to a long-term exclusive worldwide publishing<br />
deal since 1998. His songs have<br />
sold millions of albums in Asia, having<br />
produced mega-hit songs for Asia‘s<br />
Jackie Chueng and Andy Lau, who<br />
reached the top of numerous pop charts<br />
in the Asia region. Loy received the<br />
Singapore Hit Awards 2000 “Best Local<br />
Lyric” award.<br />

FOCK JOINS UMPG<br />
Steven Fock has joined UMPG Asia as Regional<br />
A&R Director/<strong>Publishing</strong> Manager. Reporting to<br />
Douglas Chan and Michael Huang, Fock began<br />
his 13-year career in the music business as managing director for<br />
Shiok <strong>Music</strong>. Prior to joining UMPG, he founded Musset Publication<br />
Ltd., one of the most successful independent publishing houses in<br />
the region.<br />

PUBLISHER TO O SET UP A COMPANY IN INDIA<br />
UMPG has become the first major international publisher to set<br />
up a publishing company in India. The local Indian catalogue is<br />
now available for exploitation outside of India, as all titles have<br />
been circulated to all UMPG branch offices. There are many popular<br />
film titles which are generating a lot of interest. There will<br />
be a publishers’ delegation to India in early 2001 to meet with<br />
the country’s major record companies in order to reach an<br />
agreement for the payment of mechanical royalties on international<br />
repertoire.<br />

SOCIETIES<br />
UMPG has recently become a member of<br />
the Korean society, KOMCA, and has<br />
begun receiving royalty distribution<br />
for the international catalogue.<br />
UMPG has also recently become a<br />
member of the Taiwanese society,<br />
MUST, and expects to receive the<br />
first performance distributions for<br />
local and international in early 2001.<br />
ASIA SYNCHRONIZATION<br />
BUSINESS<br />
UMPG Asia has stepped up it’s activities<br />
in the area of synchronization and secondary<br />
exploitation by working in partnership with UM3 (UMI Special<br />
Projects) to create a sampler, which appeared as an insert in a<br />
recent Asian media publication “Asian Brand News” along with a<br />
full-page ad.<br />
BOB AIRD APPOINTED<br />

In October, Bob Aird was appointed to the position of<br />
Managing Director of <strong>Universal</strong> <strong>Music</strong> <strong>Publishing</strong><br />
Australia. Aird came to UMPG from Rondor <strong>Music</strong><br />
Australia, where he was Managing Director for more<br />

than 17 years. In his new position, Aird manages the<br />
daily operations of the Sydney-based office and staff of nine. His responsibilities<br />
include expanding UMPG's already successful roster of local talent, as<br />
well as identifying and negotiating international sub-publishing deals. Aird is<br />
also overseeing the integration of the recently acquired Rondor catalogue.<br />

Awards held in Sydney in October,<br />
UMPG U.K. signing Madison<br />
Avenue took three major awards --<br />
Record of the Year, Best New Artist<br />
and the Highest Selling Australian<br />
Single award for their hit dance tune, "Don't Call Me<br />
Baby." Alex Lloyd (local signing through Rondor) who<br />
won the Best New Artist Award in 1999, won this year's<br />
Best Male Artist for his Platinum debut album, Black The<br />
Sun. Dirty Three won Best Alternative Release and<br />
Karma County won Best Adult Contemporary Album.<br />

OLYMPIC THEMES<br />
UMPG Australia's Paul Begaud and<br />
Vanessa Corish wrote one of the featured<br />
songs of the Sydney 2000<br />
Olympics. Entitled, “Dare to Dream,” the<br />
song is the Athletes Theme which was<br />
played after all athletes marched into<br />
Olympic stadium. John Farnham and<br />
Olivia Newton John, performed the song<br />
in front of a global audience. Also performed<br />
at the ceremony was "Eternity,"<br />
written & orchestrated by worldrenowned<br />
composer David Hirschfelder.<br />
The songs are on the official Olympic Opening Ceremony CD, a Top 40 compilation,<br />
which has sold in excess of 175,000 copies (2X platinum) in Australia.<br />
Begaud and Corish, who have been writing together for 5 years, have also<br />
written Terri Clark's No. 1 Country Hit "Now That I Found You" and songs for<br />
multi-platinum artists such as Wynonna Judd, Honeyz, Peter<br />
Andre and Human Nature.<br />
