Hamidiye Çarfl›s›<br />
1863 y›l›nda Sultan Abdülhamid taraf›ndan yapt›r›lan Hamidiye<br />
Çarfl›s›, mimarisiyle ‹stanbul’daki Kapal›çarfl›’y› an›msat›yor.<br />
Yaklafl›k bir kilometre uzunlu¤undaki çarfl›, hem tarihin içinde<br />
gezinme hem de al›flverifl yapma keyfi yaflat›yor. ‹pekler, ünlü el<br />
dokumas› fiam kumafllar›, geleneksel k›yafetler, çeyizlik ve<br />
hediyelik eflya al›flverifli için birebir. Roma döneminde yap›lan<br />
duvarlarla çevrili olan eski flehrin merkezindeki Hamidiye Çarfl›s›,<br />
flehrin en canl› ve renkli yerlerinden birisi.<br />
Hicaz Tren ‹stasyonu<br />
fiam, Osmanl› ‹mparatorlu¤u’nun son büyük projesi Hicaz<br />
Demiryolu’nun duraklar›ndan biriydi. ‹kinci Abdülhamid<br />
döneminde temelleri at›lan proje, Ba¤dat Demiryolu ile birleflerek,<br />
‹stanbul’u fiam üzerinden Mekke ve Medine’ye ba¤layacakt›.<br />
‹htiflaml› istasyon binas› ve binan›n önündeki eski lokomotifler<br />
ziyarete de¤er.<br />
Salahaddin Ayyubi (Saladin) Shrine<br />
An Ottoman shrine built over the graves of famous sufi mystic<br />
Muhiddîn-i Arabî and the founder of the Umayyad Dynasty, the<br />
famous Salahaddin Ayyubi (Saladin). Situated next to the<br />
Umayyad Mosque.<br />
Hamidiye Bazaar<br />
Constructed in 1863 under the reign of Ottoman Sultan<br />
Abdulhamid, the Hamidiye Bazaar is reminiscent of the Grand<br />
Bazaar in Istanbul. The one kilometer long bazaar is a pleasure<br />
not just in terms of sightseeing, but also shopping. There’s a<br />
wide assortment of silk and other materials, including famed<br />
Damascus hand-woven textiles and all sorts of clothes and<br />
other goods. It’s the perfect place to shop for gifts, and perhaps<br />
the most vibrant and colorful part of the city.<br />
Hejaz Train Station<br />
Damascus was one of the main stops along the Hejaz<br />
Railway that was built in the time of the Ottomans and stretched<br />
all the way down to the Hejaz cities of Mecca and Medina.<br />
No visit to Damascus is complete without a visit to<br />
Damascus’ Hejaz train station, which also features a museum<br />
of old locomotives.
