Before Vespers the priest in a phelon goes to the table <strong>of</strong> oblation where the precious cross,<br />
de corated with basil (or other flowers) has been prepared and rests on a tray, covered with<br />
an aer. The Royal Doors and curtain are closed. The priest: Blessed is our God. Deacon or<br />
read er in the Altar: Amen, Trisagion, and after the Lord’s Prayer — Amen. O Lord, save Your<br />
people…, Glory: Both now, O Christ God…. During the singing the priest censes the Cross,<br />
and after the exclamation he bows, places the Cross upon his head and transfers it to the Holy<br />
Table, preceded by candlebearers. He places it where the Gospel (which has been placed up -<br />
right between the antimension and the tabernacle in advance) normally rests. After this the<br />
curtain and Royal Doors are opened and the Vigil begins.<br />
At Great Vespers: Blessed is the man. At Lord, I have cried 8 stykhyry <strong>of</strong> the feast, Glory: Both<br />
now <strong>of</strong> the feast. The Prokeimen <strong>of</strong> the day. 3 Paremii. At the Litia the stykhyry <strong>of</strong> the feast.<br />
Aposticha <strong>of</strong> the feast. After the song <strong>of</strong> Symeon, at the blessing <strong>of</strong> loaves, the tropar <strong>of</strong> the<br />
feast thrice.<br />
At Matins At God is the Lord the tropar <strong>of</strong> the feast thrice. After the kathismas the sessional<br />
