Specifically, we offer the opportunity to be a Collens Scholar to Chicago Public School seniors who demonstrate defined financial need. Collens Scholars are awarded full tuition, room and board, and books. January Scholarship Name: Tuskegee Airmen National Educational Assistance Scholarship Website: http://www.taisf.org/newsletter.html Application: https://www.chooseyourfuture.org/sites/default/files/scholarship-educational-assistance-award-application.pdf Scholarship Description: Background Information: Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated is a unique organization dedicated to the preservation of the history of African American Veterans whose service during World War II demonstrated to America that the criteria for responsible citizenship are character and achievement rather than ethnic origin. Scholarship Award Amount: $1,500 Renewable: No Scholarship Requirements: Applicants must be students of accredited high schools who have graduated or will graduate in the school year 2012-2013. Additionally, applying students must have a GPA of at least three points (3.0) on a four-point scale. Required Documentation: • Two (2) page essay containing: a biographical sketch, educational aspirations, career goals and an explanation of why financial aid is essential. • Additionally, the applicant must include a single page essay entitled “The Tuskegee Airmen” which reflects an overview of their history. Essays must be typed, double-spaced with 1-inch margins on 8.5” x 11” paper. Box 19063 Chicago, IL 60619 Open to DREAMers: Unknown Scholarship Deadline: January 12, 2013 Scholarship Name: University of Illinois at Chicago President’s Award Program Website: http://www.uic.edu/depts/oaa/degree_progress/pap.html Scholarship Description: High achieving newly admitted freshmen from historically underrepresented groups; high achieving students from low-sending Illinois counties defined as counties sending an average of two or fewer students per academic year to the University of Illinois in the past five year period; and high achieving dependent students whose families are not expected to contribute to the cost of their education as verified through FAFSA and financial aid application processes are eligible for consideration for the PAP award. Eligibility is based on a combination of ACT composite score and class rank. Application for the award is made through the regular admissions review process; once admitted eligible students receive individual review for the PAP. Your second letter may be written by another teacher or by someone (not a family member) outside your school who is familiar with your qualifications.
