March Scholarship Name: IPLAC Educational Foundation Scholarship________________________________________________ Website: http://www.iplac.org/About/scholarship.shtml Scholarship Description: The IPLAC Educational foundation has been organized by the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago for the purpose of funding and awarding scholarships to youths who reside in Chicago. Awards from $2,500 - $3,000. Website Notes: Go to “About” and select “Educational Foundation.” Scholarship Award Amount: Up to $5,000 Renewable: No Scholarship Qualifications: Be a resident of the Chicagoland Area Be in the upper 25% of his/her graduating class The applicant must be a Chicago Public School high school student (no charter, private or parochial schools) who is planning to major in a science, engineering or pre-law in college. Required Documentation: Completed application ACT and/or SAT scores Letters of recommendation Proposed college major, extracurricular activities, employment history, and financial information (although not tax returns) Open to DREAMers: Yes Scholarship Deadline: This scholarship has a March deadline. Scholarship Name: Junior Achievement of Chicago High School Scholarship Website: http://www.jachicago.org/ Scholarship Description: Each year, JA of Chicago gives out thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards to deserving students who have participated in JA programs. Website notes: Go to “Programs” then select “JA Scholarships.” Scholarship Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 Renewable: No Scholarship Qualifications: Must be a high school senior who has an average of “B” or better. For the general scholarships high school participation is not a requirement but you must have participated in a Junior Achievement program at some point during your academic career (elementary school, middle school or high school). Required Documentation: Copy of the classroom volunteer or teacher rating scale • Copy of the high school rating scale • Official transcript • SAT/ACT/PSAT results • Letter of recommendation from your principal, teacher or counselor • Student essay detailing your reasons for wanting to continue your education • Short biography including extracurricular activities, community service, and how involvement with Junior Achievement has affected your life Open to DREAMers: Yes Scholarship Deadline: This scholarship has a mid-March deadline. March Scholarship Name: Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program (Elementary & High School Scholarship )_______________________ Website: http://www.kohlscorporation.com/CommunityRelations/scholarship/index.asp Application Information: http://www.kohlscorporation.com/CommunityRelations/scholarship/media/downloads/FAQ_ENG.pdf Scholarship Description: Every year, Kohl’s recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) across the country for their amazing contributions to their communities. National Winners will each be awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships for post-secondary education and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a non-profit organization on each winner’s behalf. Additional Requirements: Award based on substantial community service. Students must be nominated. Scholarship Award Amount: Store winners will receive a $50.00 Kohl’s Gift Card. Additionally, over two hundred $1,000 regional scholarship awards for post-secondary education are planned, half to each age group. Apply to the Marriott Scholars Program which offers financial support of up to $9,000 per year for four years coupled with opportunities for on-going career guidance and mentoring. Scholarship Award Amount: Full tuition up to $9,000 Renewable: Yes Number of Years Renewable: 4 Scholarship Qualifications: Be of Hispanic/Latino heritage • Be U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico. • Be an upcoming freshman or sophomore for the 2013-2014 school year, including students who will transfer from a community college to a four-year school as a freshman or sophomore for 2013-2014. • Plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student during the 2013-2014 school year in a hospitality management or culinary program. • Plan to pursue a degree within the hospitality management, hotel management, culinary, or food beverage field. • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
