LETTER FROM ADATH PRESIDENT
Dear Adath Family,
Shanah tovah umetukah! On behalf of our clergy, staff and Board of Trustees, I wish
you and your family a happy, healthy and sweet new year. Once again, our High
Holiday services will be blessed with our outstanding rabbinic team, Rabbi Harold
Kravitz, Rabbi Adam Titcher and Rabbi Aaron Weininger. Our services will be
enriched by the liturgy and music of Cantor Scott Buckner, Jerry Lehman and our
choir. Bernie Goldblatt, Executive Director, and the Adath staff work tirelessly in order
that all the logistics are in place so we may joyfully and safely participate in our High
Holy Day services.
As we reflect upon the past year, I am proud of how our congregation continues to
create a welcoming home for all congregants. We continue to focus our energy to be
a welcoming Kehilla Kedoshah (sacred community) where a multitude of
opportunities abound for each of us to connect to Judaism and to one another; where
youth and education for all ages are priorities. We begin our new year knowing that
within our Kehilla we continue to seek ways to effectively address the issue of hunger
which effects so many Minnesotans; to create multiple paths to Jewish learning; to
work collaboratively with our educational partners in our Talmud Torah of Minneapolis
and to plan for YACHAD; to increase teen involvement; Shabbat participation, and a
strong connection to Israel and the Conservative Movement. We continue to engage
young families with Mishpacha Plus and 20’s and 30’s with our Makom program. We
create connections and kehillot through our many Havurot. We are a Kehilla that is
compassionate and caring offering healing through our congregational nurse program
and Yad Sima Tova. We are more than all of this— there are so many congregants
who in quiet and unassuming ways enrich our Adath family with their contributions of
time, financial support, compassion, wisdom, and teaching. "Loving-kindness
endures forever." -- Psalm 89:3
May 5774 be a year in which our Adath Kehilla experiences loving-kindness in all our
work and study. As we continue to transform our priorities into realities, I invite you to
become more involved as a participant, donor or volunteer. While we cannot know all
that this New Year will bring, we do know that our tradition teaches us that although
we may not complete the work that must never keep us from trying. In that spirit we
wish you, your families and all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah a sweet year full of
peace and fulfillment.
ADATH ACCESSIBILITY
INCLUSION
Rabbi Barry Cytron, Adath Senior Scholar
confession and pardon in Judaism, centered on two familiar prayers, Ashamnu and Al
Chet, two public confessions that are recited on Yom Kippur no fewer than ten times in
the course of twenty-four hours at prayer. No one can miss them, and no one can avoid
wondering about them.
We will use selections from We Have Sinned: Sin and Confession in Judaism—Ashamnu
and Al Chet, by Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman. We begin in the Chapel at 9:15 AM sharp
Please leave the handicapped spaces for drivers who actually require them. If you are
driving a person with a handicap permit, drop that person off at the front entrance and
park in a regular parking space. There are 19 permanent spaces and an additional 32
handicapped parking spaces for the Holidays.
High Holy Days Parking—Continued
TEMPORARY EXIT
There is a temporary exit on the east side of Adath’s parking lot which will be open only
during the Aleph and Bet changeover period. This exit is used by special permission of the
Minnetonka City Council, only during the High Holy Days. No entrance will be allowed at
this opening and no parking is allowed on the residential street (Windsor Lake Lane)
between Windsor Lake Drive and the temporary exit.
Cars exiting the Adath lot through this temporary exit will be directed to turn right on
Windsor Lake Drive for one block and then directed back to Lindbergh Drive.
All cars must enter using the driveway on Hillside Lane.
Do not attempt to enter through the temporary exit.
Please note there is one hour between the end of the Aleph service and the beginning of
the Bet Musaf service. We urge congregants not to arrive early for the Bet Musaf service so
the Aleph congregants have time to clear the parking lots. Note: On Kol Nidre the break
between the Aleph and Bet services is only 45 minutes.
NOTE: The Minnetonka Police will be posting temporary no parking signs on some
residental streets. This is to allow fire truck access, as these streets are too narrow for
parking on both sides.
