A D A T H F O U N D A T I O NMort and Merle Kane Lend Support to Adathand the Greater Jewish CommunityThere is a saying that as Jews weshould give as we have beenblessed. That message isimportant to Mort and Merle Kane."Through good fortune, goodeducations, and the support of thegeneral and Jewish communities,we have been blessed to haveenough for ourselves and feel a strong sense of obligationto give back. We understand the importance of educationand the promotion of Jewish learning, if Judaism and ourJewish community are to remain strong," says Mort. Thustheir commitment to Jewish education and camping, saidto be two of the strongest pillars of Jewish continuity.Several years ago they joined the Legacy Society byincluding the Adath Foundation in their estate plans. Toenjoy the benefits of giving, they now have made a directgift, creating the Morton and Merle Kane Family Fund forJewish Education and Camping in the Adath Foundation. This Fund will support educational programming of AdathJeshurun Congregation and scholarships for Adath youthto attend Herzl Camp.According to the Kanes, “The congregation is an extendedfamily, so many good friends, a learning and caringcommunity. We are pleased to be a part of and honoredto help support and ensure its future.”The Kanes’ gifts are helpful contributions to ensure Adath’swell-being for this and future generations. The future of ourcongregation and of Judaism is in our hands. Dina can’t promise to answerall questions in the column but will do her best to answer asmany as possible.Dear Dina,When I got my last mailing from Adath, I noticed it was addressedto me “or current resident.” It was about an Adathevent and it seemed really strange to me that any other“current resident” would be interested in it. What’s up withthat?PuzzledDear Puzzled,When we have over 250 mailing pieces (for example, theHigh Holy Days packet), we generally send them out bybulk mail instead of first class. This saves a good deal ofmoney, but the U.S. Postal Service requires that we addthe words, “Or current resident” to the address. Whetheryou are Perry Shapiro-Wolf or Current Resident, you canthink about all of the money that we are saving the nexttime that you receive a letter with that strange line addedto the address label.DinaC O M M U N I T Y N E W SHaZamir Teen Choir Gala FundraiserFebruary 15 Gala opens at 7 PM; Concert at 8 PM at theSabes JCC.
