Crantock: pretty village (some thatch, PO,
pub, tea room, shop, church) with splendid
hardcore lane, a semi-detached cottage converted
from a 15th cent. barn. It and the friendly, welcoming
owners’ house (opposite) are surrounded by 40
acres of land with more meadows beyond; it is a very
peaceful, private place. You have a small walled area
in front (table/chairs) and are welcome to walk the
owners’ land and make friends with goats, sheep,
ducks, free-roaming chickens, dogs and cats.
Trewellard: former tin
mining village (granite
cottages, good food
pub, tea rooms) just 1 ⁄2
mile from the stunning
cliff coast (fantastic
walking) and within 2
miles of a pretty cove
beach (sandy mid
rocks). Geevor Mine
(closed 1990) turned
excellent museum, 1 ⁄4
mile at Pendeen (see brochure, page 183). Much prehistory
all around, including a fogou and quoits. St Just-in-
Penwith (see brochure, page 183), 2 miles. Magnificent
surf/sand beach at Sennen, about 6 miles. St Ives and
Minack Theatre, both about 13 miles away.
Inside, modern, fresh and comfortable. Door to small hall with slate floor,
coat/boot cupboard; living/dining room with high, exposed ceiling beams,
books/games, CD player; neat fitted kitchen with dishwasher, washing
machine, microwave; loo (washbasin). Stairs from hall up to two attractive
bedrooms, both double, one with 5’ bed and TV,
and one with limited access to one side of the bed;
bathroom (suite plus bath-shower). Phone. No
smoking. Spring water (tested). Wonderfully
tucked away, yet central for coast, shops and
activities.
… in Trewellard, an early 19th cent., typically Cornish, granite terraced cottage, 100 yards from the B3306, and just 150
yards to the pub (good food). At the front, a neat granite-walled paved garden and, at the back, a paved courtyard (picnic table)
with useful sheds for bikes/surfboards and space for parking one vehicle (from narrow back lane). Inside, cosy and comfy with
lovely long views from upstairs across rugged hedgerow meadows to the sea. From garden, front door to hall with tiled floor;
living room with multi-fuel stove and exposed narrow ceiling beams; a snug with stone fireplace
(ornamental), exposed ceiling beams, games/toys, books; step down to kitchen (washing machine,
microwave, fridge-freezer) with good solid dining table/chairs, lovely old original cast-iron
range (not in use), lowish ceiling beams (5’10”), and back door (careful, 5’3” lintel!) to courtyard. Up
steepish stairs to three bedrooms – double (5’ bed), single with pull-out truckle bed, and another
single; bathroom (suite plus bath-shower). No smoking. A smashing little cottage at any time of
year.
