Academic Honor Society<br />

Qualified USJF Judo students in middle school, junior and senior high school who maintained at least a 3.7 GPA<br />

throughout the academic year are recognized. If the students meet all the criteria they will be awarded a patch,<br />

certificate and a letter of congratulations. Their name will be listed on the USJF web page and their picture and<br />

name published in the USJF magazine<br />

Criteria for elementary school students was created this year and those students will now also be recognized.<br />

Working on a new patch and emblem for the elementary school students (kindergarten to 4 th grade) that are<br />

different from the other, and more appropriate. Students who maintain high quality class work, good attendance,<br />

and display respectful and courteous relations with teachers, faculty, staff and fellow students will be recognized.<br />

The Marketing Committee looking into grant possibilities for awards or scholarship.<br />

Business Cards<br />

Encourage more club members, instructors, delegates, and committee members to utilize this marketing tool for<br />

their personal use and also to help promote visibility of the USJF logo. Thanks to those who are participating.<br />

Development Newsletter<br />

Reestablished distribution in May by new editor Ernie Wakamatsu, now living in Japan and producing the<br />

newsletter by Internet. July issue featured pictures and individual articles of the USJF Outstanding Award<br />

Winners for 2001-<strong>2002</strong>. Thanks to the Development Committee Chairpersons or representative for their<br />

contribution to that newsletter.<br />

50 th Anniversary Dinner Commemorative Program Booklet & 50 th Anniversary Yearbook<br />

Individual biographies recognizing the individuals who have contributed to the 50 year history of USJF Judo,<br />

combined with the yudanshakai history article in the USJF 50 th Anniversary Commemorative Program Booklet,<br />

was distributed to those who attended the anniversary dinner in Cleveland April 9, <strong>2002</strong>. Thanks to all the<br />

yudanshakai representatives who participated in contributing pictures and articles.<br />

Associate Membership<br />

It is a means for parents, relatives or friends of students to contribute to the club and also for them to be a part of<br />

the USJF organization. Presently there are 320 associate members. This averages only about one associate<br />

member per club. Need to encourage clubs to take advantage of this program for mutual benefit of all.<br />

National Office Oversight Visit<br />

A visit was made on August 30 and 31, <strong>2002</strong> to review current workflow procedure. Of concern was to verify<br />

that an efficient and effective procedure is established for processing checks and to make sure checks will be<br />

processed in a timely manner and accounted for. Other items reviewed were: un-reconciled checks, high speed<br />

Internet access, e-mail group mailings, employee review process, high speed printer, magazine support, web site<br />

support, merchandise availability and other challenges of the National Office.<br />
