Public Relations Committee – Vaughn Imada
USJF Public Relations Committee
Continuing to look for tools to promote the USJF clubs, yudanshakai, and to be of value to the members with the
following in mind:
• Provide tools that will be of value to individuals, member clubs and yudanshakai, such as pamphlets,
posters, record books, and student handbooks, and “How-To” manuals.
• Keep the cost for the tools reasonable to individuals, member clubs and yudanshakai.
• Find a means to involve all the member clubs and yudanshakai in the common goal of increasing
membership and retaining present members.
• Survey individual members, clubs and yudanshakai to determine what they want or need.
• Find means of communicating the availability of the tools and available resources to the membership.
• Coordinate and work together with the Marketing Committee, Web Site Committee, Merchandising
Committee, the National Office and the advisors to the President in ensuring the Vision and Mission
Statement of the USJF is the common goal.
Web Site and E-Mail
Achieved this year’s goal of 16,000 hits per month in July 2002, when we received a record 16,504 hit. Up over
3,000 hits from same time last year. Each month this year has exceeded the previous year’s amount of visitors.
Continually upgrading and improving site to provide a better service for our visitors. The web site committee,
with help from Neil Simon and Dean Markovics, are trying to determine what visitors are looking for and what we
should be providing.
We are going to be providing information to people who may not be members, and to those who are just browsing
the site. “How to find a Judo club in your area”, “What is Judo?”, “What is a yudanshakai?”, etc., will be pages
that will be added. This hopefully will better introduce non-Judo people to the site and to Judo
Continually exploring several possibilities in high speed Internet access. Building up address book for group
contact and dissemination of information by e-mail. Should have high-speed access before the end of the year.
Suggest that yudanshakai establish their sub-site on the USJF site or at least link with the USJF site.
Yudanshakai officers and Development Committee Chair (or their representative) should continually update their
area on the USJF site.
Merchandise
Continuing to explore ways to increase exposure of the USJF logo and to increase profitability. Looking at
incentive and licensing agreement possibilities with Judo vendors. Will build up small inventory at National
Office to avoid long waits and items not being available. Need to revamp and update web site.
USJF Posters & Brochures
With planned purchase of high-speed printer, the National Office will be able to produce the brochures and posters
and again make them available to the clubs at more reasonable rates.
