IAM students at InStore Asia<br />
IAM students of Fashion Communication and Fashion Design<br />
Management streams along with their faculty visited<br />
Mumbai to attend the InStore Asia-VM-RD Retail Design<br />
Awards 2014.<br />
The students also visited Daily News and Analysis<br />
(DNA) newspaper office at the India Bulls Building,<br />
Lower Parel, Mumbai. They interacted with the Editor-in-<br />
Chief Mr. C.P. Surendran and Senior Editor,Mr. Binu John<br />
for an hour. Mr. Surendran discussed the fashion trends<br />
and about the famous Fashion Designer John Galliano.<br />
John Galliano was sacked as Chief Designer of Christian<br />
Dior after a series of claims that he had subjected women<br />
to tirades of anti-Semitic abuse. Hours before his dismissal,<br />
the British fashion designer had been denounced by<br />
Israel-born actress Natalie Portman, who is the face of a<br />
Dior perfume. IAM students actively participated in this<br />
conversation and voiced their views.<br />
Mr. Surendran was impressed by the stand IAM students<br />
took on this issue. Ms. Sureena of Fashion Communication<br />
elaborated on the need of ethics in Fashion industry.<br />
At the InStore Asia-VM-RD Retail Design Awards function<br />
students got a chance to experience the new trends<br />
in Visual Merchandising. There were six teams worked<br />
on Instant VM models. Students could see how the Creative<br />
Thinking progressed to better VM models. After this<br />
event they watched the presentation of National Awards<br />
in different categories of Visual Merchandising. At the<br />
after event party students got a chance to network with<br />
industry experts and professionals.<br />
Students also visited high style malls in Mumbai and<br />
took lessons on the Visual Merchandising practices.<br />
IAM students got an unique opportunity to interact<br />
with Mr. Nilesh Wagh, Art Director of ‘EK THA TIGER’’<br />
the Salman Khan fame Hindi feature film. He was Art<br />
Director for the recent Hindi feature film BOSS. Students<br />
were taken for a tour around Film City at Goregaon,<br />
Mumbai. They were explained on how the film sets are<br />
designed.<br />
The entire study tour of IAM students gave them a feel<br />
of learning by experience.
