Principal’s Report
RYDA
Year 11 from Kelso HC spent last Monday in the care
of the Police….. for the right reasons.
The RYDA program targets the driving habits of our
beginning drivers, taking them through scenarios that
clearly show the risks that are always there when any
driver gets behind the wheel.
Thanks to the local Rotary clubs for their support and
a special thanks to our wonderful Year 11 for being
such an attentive and motivated group all day.
Matthew Booth
Matthew is one of our school leaders, and he has
taken part in the Lions Public Speaking competition at
the Bathurst RSL recently.
Matthew spoke well under pressure, with a prepared
speech, and two impromptu efforts. He was not
successful overall, however his interpersonal skills
and appearance were a credit to him and his family.
Congratulations to Matthew for putting his hand up to
be placed in such a pressure situation.
Big Day Out
The Swimming Carnival held recently was an
outstanding success, with a strong rollup of students
and a great atmosphere. Congratulations to all the
swimmers, not just the Age Champions. Also a big
thank you to Natalie Grives for her superb
organisation. So many students swam, and the staff at
the pool complimented our school for being close to
perfect in every way all day. Just the news a Principal
wants to hear.
All That Water
I want to thank all the families who communicated
with the school two Fridays ago when the flooding
became severe. A special thank you to Stephanie
Brown, who skilfully managed such a huge situation
with support from a caring and professional staff.
I would remind families and students that students
who do not need to go home during the day should
stay at school under our supervision.

Denison College - High Achievers Function 2012
Denison College celebrated the performance of our
highest performing students at a function early this
term.
Students from both campuses were acknowledged for
their overall performances during 2011, however, it
was also recognition that these students value the
educational opportunities afforded to them by
Denison College.
Year 10 and 12 students were invited to attend if they
attained a Band 6 result in one or more subjects from
School Certificate or Higher School Certificate
examinations. Year 11 students were invited to attend
if they received overall Preliminary Course marks that
were above 90% for subjects or they were recognised
on Presentation Night as the student with the highest
course rankings for 2011.
Special guests included Mr Peter Harvey, Bathurst
School Education Director and Col Sharpe, Head of
Campus CSU Bathurst.

were handed out this week in the Gym.
Notes for Years 8. 9 and 10 on Tuesday 27 th March
will be handed out next week, also in the Gym.

Girls Hockey: Western Area Trials
On Friday 24 th February a group of girls from Kelso
High Campus competed for 14 spots in the Western
Area Girls Open Hockey team. The trials attracted the
largest number of competitors for quite some time, so
competition was tough. All of the girls worked
extremely hard participating in fitness test, skills and
game play. A special congratulation goes out to
Jessica Watterson and Sarah Watterson who were
selected for the team and to Madison Boyce and
Aimee Ashcroft for being selected as shadows. The
championships are being held at Moorebank from the
8-10 th of May 2012.

Clean Up Australia Day
This day was held at Kelso High last Thursday during
lunchtime. Students supported their school,
classmates and friends.
Over 60 students were involved, including the SRC,
Girri Girri, Leadership Team and Streamwatch.
Students from Years 7 – 12 were provided with a
bucket, tongs and a tally sheet. Our tally for 2010 was
3000 pieces of rubbish and for 2011 it was 8000
pieces. Hopefully this year we will reach 9000 pieces
of rubbish.
The school is registered with Clean Up Australia and
the final tally of rubbish picked up will be sent in.
Lifesaving Certificate
Students are invited to complete their Bronze
Medallion Lifesaving Certificate (includes CPR).
Minimum number of students is 10

WANTED: COMMUNITY
VOLUNTEER MENTORS
In Bathurst Region!
Plan-it Youth is:
Community Mentoring support that
helps students makes positive choices for their future.
Mentors are people who have left school themselves,
have an interest in young people, care about their
local community and can give an hour and a half per
week to spend time with a young person for a 10
week period.
Mentors are farmers, people in business, part-time
and
full-time workers, mothers at home with children,
retired people, men and women.
Training is provided free of cost to suitable

Indigenous Chronic Disease Diabetes Clinic
The NSW Central West Division of General Practice
last November started an Indigenous Chronic Disease
Diabetes Clinic that operates every Thursday out of
the Kelso Community Centre. An Endocrinologist
visits the first Thursday of every month plus the
services of a diabetes educator, a psychologist, a
dietitian and a podiatry service operating fortnightly.

Bathurst Junior Rugby Registration
Bathurst Junior Rugby (Burrs U7, U9 & U11 &
Bulldogs U13) registration will be held at the Anne
Ashwood Park complex on Friday March 9 th from
5.00 pm to 6:30pm. Registration costs for the 2012
will be $65 per player. Burrs club shorts and socks
will be available for purchase at the registration
nights.
On the night we will also be taking expressions of
interest for U15’s & 17’s players in the hope of
fielding sides in the 2012 season.

MyTime Group in Bathurst
Are you the parent or carer of a child under sixteen
years with special needs or a chronic health
condition?
MyTime is a free peer support group that provides
you with an opportunity to take some time for
yourself. The MyTime group in Bathurst meets
fortnightly and provides an opportunity to relax
over a cuppa and meet with other carers. A play
helper keeps the children busy with fun activities.
The coordinator, Suzi Welch, supports the group
informally to get to know each other and share
information and ideas. Suzi can also organize guest
speakers and pampering or leisure sessions.
Everyone is welcome.

STS Student Exchange
STS Student Exchange is a not-for-profit student
exchange organisation that has placed many

CPR manikin for each candidate. Certificate is valid for 3 years.
Candidates without a current Senior First Aid certificate need to
complete a Flexible Delivery Workbook prior to attending this
course – bookings should be made at least one week prior to the
date above.
Update candidates must provide evidence of current Senior First
Aid certificate with their enrolment.
Online training
Learn first aid anytime using our new ‘First Aid in a
Box’ program. You will receive your own minimanikin
and online access to complete your
training in your own time.
Simply attend a 2‐hour assessment workshop at the
completion of your online training to validate your
certificate. The next assessment in Bathurst will be:
