Consorcio Agua Azul, which operates the Cono Norte (Río Chillón) concession saw profits fall by 77%<br />

in 2005 to PEN2.85million (USD855,000) due to exchange rate losses and high interest costs. Sales<br />

eased by 0.42% to PEN36.1million and operating profit fell 3.35% to PEN18.5million. Consorcio won a<br />

27 year BOT concession in 2000 for Río Chillón, which supplies water to Sedapal. The contract may<br />

be extended to 33 years at the concessionaire's request.<br />

ProInversión, the state investment promotion agency is seeking bidders for a concession covering the<br />

Sedam Huancayo water utility in central Junín department. Huancayo has some 400,000 people<br />

serviced by 52,527 potable water connections and 50,722 sewerage connections. The concessionaire<br />

would have to invest some USD100million over 30 years to maintain and expand potable water and<br />

sewerage services.<br />

Four bidders have pre-qualified for the concession of Peru's Piura and Paita basic service utility<br />

(EPS). Bidders include Argentine-Peruvian consortium Latin Aguas-Concyssa, Concesionario de<br />

Aguas de Piura (Colombia's Conalvias and Cuba's Técnica Hidráulica), Spanish-French consortium<br />

Proactiva-Medio Ambiente, and Conhydra-Odinsa, from Colombia. The water utility requires a<br />

USD130million investment, of which USD70million will be financed by a loan from the Japan Bank for<br />

International Cooperation.<br />
