an applicant can be given a retest. Any applicant that fails a second time will have his/her<br />
driving potential reevaluated.<br />
4-5. ROAD TESTS. The following road test procedures and minimum standards are based<br />
on previously established military standards. Scoring is done on the Road Test Score Sheet,<br />
Figure A-12, Appendix A. Road tests are not required for issuance of a Shop Use Only License.<br />
a. Choosing the Test Course. Selection of a road test course is the responsibility of<br />
the licensing office. It is advisable to have several routes selected and to alternate them at<br />
random. All test routes should be mapped, with notes as to where along the route the various<br />
road and traffic situations are located; Figure 4-5. Maps need not be to scale and will be<br />
maintained by the licensing office. Routes should be reviewed and, if necessary, changed<br />
periodically as road or traffic conditions change. The entire length of the test course will<br />
encompass no less than five miles. The route selected for the road test will be on a hard surface<br />
road that may include the following if available:<br />
Stop signs<br />
Traffic lights (all configurations)<br />
Series of turns (left and right)<br />
Traffic conditions in dual and multi-lane roads<br />
Intersections with the vision of applicant obscured<br />
Warning signs that the applicant must identify<br />
Grades of not more than 60 percent up hill or 20 percent down hill<br />
Railroad crossing (minimum of two, may be one of the same)<br />
Curves on dual and multi-lane roads<br />
