driving potential reevaluated.
4-5. ROAD TESTS. The following road test procedures and minimum standards are based
on previously established military standards. Scoring is done on the Road Test Score Sheet,
Figure A-12, Appendix A. Road tests are not required for issuance of a Shop Use Only License.
a. Choosing the Test Course. Selection of a road test course is the responsibility of
the licensing office. It is advisable to have several routes selected and to alternate them at
random. All test routes should be mapped, with notes as to where along the route the various
road and traffic situations are located; Figure 4-5. Maps need not be to scale and will be
maintained by the licensing office. Routes should be reviewed and, if necessary, changed
periodically as road or traffic conditions change. The entire length of the test course will
encompass no less than five miles. The route selected for the road test will be on a hard surface
road that may include the following if available:
Stop signs
Traffic lights (all configurations)
Series of turns (left and right)
Traffic conditions in dual and multi-lane roads
Intersections with the vision of applicant obscured
Warning signs that the applicant must identify
Grades of not more than 60 percent up hill or 20 percent down hill
Railroad crossing (minimum of two, may be one of the same)
Curves on dual and multi-lane roads
