STRATEGIC UPDATE – YEAR IN REVIEW<br />

• GOVERNANCE AND RISK – Wrote several articles<br />

for <strong>FEI</strong> Canada’s Finance and Accounting<br />

Review (FAR), gave their expertise to our<br />

CFERF “Beyond the numbers: Evolving<br />

leadership role of the CFO” report, and<br />

responded to the CICA’s invitation to<br />

comment: “A framework for board oversight<br />

of enterprise risk”.<br />

Michael Conway and Peter Effer, Chair of <strong>FEI</strong> Canada’s<br />

tax committee, testifying at FINA<br />

• PENSIONS – Submitted a comment and<br />

presented to the WSIB funding review,<br />

submitted several articles to the FAR, and<br />

studied issues such as increased tax deferred<br />

annual contributions and maximum tax<br />

deferred pensions from deferred benefit plans.<br />

IPAC meeting at the <strong>2011</strong> <strong>FEI</strong> Canada conference<br />

• INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY – Studied<br />

the IT impact of IFRS, XBRL, cloud computing,<br />

and worked with CFERF on the “Enterprise<br />

mobility: Executive perspectives on mobile<br />

business applications” report.<br />

• PRIVATE COMPANY ISSUES – Commented on<br />

the AcSB’s proposed Accounting Standards<br />

for Private Enterprises, contributed to the<br />

development of several webinars, created<br />

HST issue alert for <strong>FEI</strong> Canada members,<br />

and assisted in the planning of the third annual<br />

SME conference.<br />
