Frequently Asked <strong>Questions</strong><br />
1. Will students want to study at <strong>Worthing</strong> <strong>College</strong> at the new site?<br />
Answer – The new site is located at 1 S<strong>and</strong>iton Way, <strong>Worthing</strong>. The site is in a wellpopulated<br />
residential area <strong>and</strong> moves the <strong>College</strong> closer to the centre of town <strong>and</strong> to three<br />
of the High Schools in <strong>Worthing</strong>. The new site is well served with a number of bus routes<br />
that stop at Broadwater Green <strong>and</strong> <strong>Worthing</strong> Railway Station. A Compass bus will serve the<br />
new site <strong>and</strong> the route includes the Pier, <strong>Worthing</strong> Station <strong>and</strong> the college site. It is<br />
anticipated that students will travel to the new site in a variety of ways including train, bus,<br />
bike, walking <strong>and</strong> by car. There will be student parking on site.<br />
The new <strong>College</strong> site will give students a very high quality learning environment <strong>and</strong><br />
facilities.<br />
2. Who is buying our current site?<br />
Answer – Our current site at Bolsover Road <strong>and</strong> three acres of surplus l<strong>and</strong> at The Warren<br />
have been sold to Barratt Homes.<br />
3. Do we lose playing fields?<br />
Answer – The playing fields at Bolsover Road will be lost but the playing fields at The Warren<br />
will be brought back into use along with a new floodlit netball/tennis facility.<br />
4. What will the <strong>College</strong> facilities be like at the new site?<br />
Answer –The new facilities will be of a high st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>and</strong> include:<br />
A range of very good sized classrooms, laboratories, vocational rooms <strong>and</strong> Learning<br />
Zones,<br />
Hard wired IT facilities in specialist areas <strong>and</strong> wireless connection throughout the<br />
building,<br />
Two large cafés for students <strong>and</strong> staff,<br />
A larger Nursery,<br />
A central Library,<br />
An integrated Student Services area including college stationery shop, Student Services,<br />
Student Advice <strong>and</strong> Support, Finance, Exams <strong>and</strong> a Health <strong>and</strong> Wellbeing Centre,<br />
A college shop called ‘The Corner Shop’, located in one of the cafés, selling every day<br />
essentials to staff <strong>and</strong> students<br />
A fitness gym,<br />
Changing facilities for sport,<br />
On-site parking for staff <strong>and</strong> students,<br />
The Sealight Theatre – with dance studio, classroom <strong>and</strong> Learning Zone, Green Room,<br />
storage, staff office, toilets <strong>and</strong> Theatre,<br />

5. The new site doesn’t have a Sports Hall so how will we deliver sport <strong>and</strong> recreation?<br />
Answer – The existing college does not have a sports hall. We will continue to use <strong>Worthing</strong><br />
Leisure Centre <strong>and</strong> on-site <strong>and</strong> off-site sports pitches to meet our needs. There will be an<br />
on-site fitness gym, changing rooms, a fitness trail around the site <strong>and</strong> a floodlit netball/<br />
tennis facility.<br />
6. How will students <strong>and</strong> staff travel to <strong>and</strong> access the college?<br />
Answer – By car, walking, cycling <strong>and</strong> bus (including a college shuttle bus service).<br />
Improvements are being made to the Grove Lodge roundabout to improve pedestrian safety<br />
<strong>and</strong> traffic flow. Cycling lanes are being improved around the site. The college is<br />
implementing a travel plan which includes a number of measures to reduce car traffic<br />
including a car share scheme.<br />
There are four entrances to the site. There are two gated entrances at the Grove Lodge<br />
roundabout. Once pedestrians <strong>and</strong> cyclists cross at the lights they can enter the college site<br />
<strong>and</strong> join a footpath to the building. A main entrance for cars, pedestrians <strong>and</strong> cyclists is<br />
available in Hill Barn Lane. There is also an entrance for pedestrians <strong>and</strong> cyclists on Warren<br />
Road.<br />
7. Will smoking be allowed on site?<br />
Answer – Yes, smoking will be allowed on-site but only in a designated area of the campus.<br />
8. What are the times of the college day <strong>and</strong> will the college open in the evenings?<br />
Answer – The college timetable runs between 8.30am <strong>and</strong> 4.20pm although the college will<br />
normally be open between 7.30am <strong>and</strong> 7pm for staff, Monday to Friday. The college will<br />
open later for other events most evenings, e.g. parents evenings, evening classes, netball<br />
league matches. Therefore, events will end by 9.30pm with the college closed by 10pm.<br />
The college will be open at the weekends for Open University, exhibitions <strong>and</strong> events but we<br />
have more than enough parking to cover this.<br />
9. Will the college open at the weekends?<br />
Answer - There will be college events that take place at weekends. These could include<br />
Open University classes, exhibitions <strong>and</strong> events related to hire of college facilities. Again, in<br />
all cases, we have sufficient parking capacity to meet requirements for these events.<br />
10. Will students have enough social, recreational <strong>and</strong> study space on site?<br />
Answer – We have two large cafés on site with capacity for over 220 people. In addition, we<br />
have a college shop selling everyday essentials to students <strong>and</strong> staff.<br />
We will have a curriculum Learning Zone for every subject, a large central Library <strong>and</strong> a large<br />
Upgrade Centre. This will provide ample study facilities. The site also provides health <strong>and</strong><br />
well-being services such as counselling, a state of the art fitness gym <strong>and</strong> a floodlit<br />
netball/tennis facility.<br />
Students will have ample social, recreational <strong>and</strong> study space on site.<br />

12. How may staff <strong>and</strong> students does the college have?<br />
Answer – Estimates for September 2013 are that there will be 1,620 students primarily, 16-<br />
18 years of age <strong>and</strong> 220 staff.<br />
