This social service group tutors kids once a week on Monday afternoons at the Foster Reading Center, an after school program in Evanston for kids ages five to twelve. New Trier student volunteers help kids with homework and reading, and also play games with them. We work with the same kids each week so NT students are able to form great relationships with them. Freshmen are welcome to join us! fRanCofoUs Founded pre-1924 Ms. Liette Brisebois Ms. Susan Shneider WINNETKA If you are crazy for French - the culture, the language, the food - then you are “francofou!” If you enjoy or are interested in cooking, watching French movies, having dinner at local French restaurants, running a crêpe stand at school, then Francofous is the club for you. Francofous: le club le plus chouette pour les francophones (de New Trier). fResHMan foCUs Founded 2001 Mr. Ed Zwirner NORTHFIELD This club publishes news articles for the Northfield Campus in print and online formats and offers freshmen a voice on the campus and in the District. All staff members will have the opportunity to write and edit throughout the year. Students will receive an orientation to reporting, editing, and design. Meetings occur weekly. o r g A n i z At i o n S A n d c l u b S fResHMan senaTe Founded 2001 Mr. Robin Forrest Mr. Andrew Juedes NORTHFIELD The Freshman Senate serves as the student government for the Northfield Campus. Members of the Senate develop the leadership skills they will use at New Trier and later in life. Senate meets during the school day, with one representative from each adviser room chosen at the beginning of the school year. In addition, students can run for class office and executive board, which meets an additional time each week, after school. The executive board works closely with the sponsors to provide the vision and focus for the governing body. Throughout the year, emphasis is put on working in small groups to achieve common goals on behalf of the student body. GaMInG ClUb Founded 2007 Mr. Andrew Juedes NORTHFIELD Gaming Club provides an opportunity for various students with differing degrees of videogame experience to take a break from the academics and pick up a controller. Members play a variety of games and use all available consoles. Students bring in their own games and systems. GeaR HeaDs Founded 2009 Mr. Nathan Silvers WINNETKA Gear Heads is a club dedicated to giving students an opportunity to explore an interest in Automotives. No experience is necessary, just the love of cars! GeRMan CUlTURe Founded 1926 TBA WINNETKA Are you interested in learning about the exciting changes happening in middle Europe today, or hosting a student from Berlin? German Club is your ticket to adventure. GIRls ClUb Founded 1919 Ms. Melissa Gonzales WINNETKA Ms. Natalia Katsinis Ms. Sharon Waring NORTHFIELD Girls Club is a leadership organization for girls. This club serves the school community by engaging in fundraising activities that benefit the New Trier Scholarship Fund. Money raised through this club is used to finance educational grants-in-aid for female students in the senior class. As freshmen, girls may apply for advisery representative positions at the beginning of the school year. They then meet once a week during advisery. At the Winnetka Campus students have the opportunity to apply for board membership. They then meet daily during 9th period to hone leadership skills, participate in bonding events and engage in other opportunities that serve the New Trier community. If you are looking for a place to meet new friends and be part of a New Trier tradition, Girls Club is the place for you. Glass GUIlD Founded 1992 Ms. Monique Boyd WINNETKA Are you interested in art? Are you interested in glass? Join us for the unique and exciting opportunity to make glass art.
Global aCTIVIsM Founded 2006 Ms. Pam Strom Ms. Virginia Nguyen NORTHFIELD Global Activism Club is designed for students who are passionate about global issues and concerns and wish to take action by raising awareness within New Trier and in the surrounding community. Students will learn about global topics, hear speakers, and organize events to inform fellow students about international problems and crises. In the past, GAC has taken trips to Washington D.C. and New York City to raise awareness and learn about the genocide in Darfur. The focus of the club will change depending on both student interest and world events. Global eXCHanGe Founded 1958 Ms. Moira Gitau WINNETKA If faraway places appeal to you, this is the club to join. Global Exchange Club acts as the support organization and peer resource for all exchange students attending New Trier. We plan holiday parties, dinners at ethnic restaurants, and weekend exchanges with other high schools. The annual spring Turnabout Dance is also organized by the club, boasting a different international theme every year. Books and video tapes are available to lead members on a tour of the place where democracy began. Won’t you join the exploration? HelPInG HanD Founded 2008 Ms. Claudia Lockhart WINNETKA The Helping Hand Club raises money to provide toys and games for kids with lifethreatening illnesses at Children’s Memorial Hospital (now Lurie Children’s Hospital). In the past the club has raised funds through bake sales and pizza sales, and in April 2012 the club joined “Burger Day 9,” which raised over $50,000 for Ronald McDonald House. Other activities include toy drives, making and serving meals for families at the Ronald McDonald House, and raising awareness among Trevians about different kinds of cancer and diseases. We are looking for fun, energetic and service-minded students who will bring their energy and ideas to help us enrich our efforts! IllInoIs CenTeR foR ReHabIlITaTIon & eDUCaTIon (ICRe) Dr. Tom Kucharski WINNETKA Join ICRE! Each week this social service group stops at Old Orchard for a snack and continues to the near west side of Chicago to hang out with physically disabled people ages five to twenty-one. NT students have a great time playing wheelchair basketball, card games, video games, and more. Come make a difference and make terrific friends! IMMoVable CenTeR Founded 2009 Mr. Tim Kajfez WINNETKA Interested in strengthening your leadership potential? Immovable Center does this, with the added benefit of reducing stress and building resilience. Club members participate in fun activities like rock climbing, meditation, painting, and drum circles. The club continuously volunteers within the community to support those in need. In THe MooD foR fooD Founded 1995 Ms. Dawn Sullivan WINNETKA Do you like to cook but cannot find room in your schedule for Creative Cuisine or Gourmet? Or, maybe you are taking one of these classes but you want to cook more? Either way, In the Mood For Food is for you. We make a variety of foods from sweet to savory. All are welcome (even if you don’t have cooking experience). InDo PaK Founded 1998 Ms. Lateef Abdulaziz WINNETKA Join Indo Pak Club to understand and celebrate the cultures of India and Pakistan.
