Students of all ages are encouraged to grab a broom, chase the golden snitch, and fight for their House in the greater quest for glory and honor - Clear Eyes, Open Heart, Can’t Lose. Muggles are welcome. RefUGee RelIef TBA WINNETKA Join and make a difference in the lives of youth forced to flee their countries and resettle in Chicago. Come to Refugee Relief social service group to help families build new lives of safety, dignity and self-reliance. During the first half an hour, students tutor; the rest of the time, students play games with kids. RICe CHIlD anD faMIlY CenTeR Mr. Richard Corrus WINNETKA This is an after school tutoring group in which NT students can enjoy helping other students at the Rice Child & Family Center. Student tutors help with homework assignments ranging from grade school to high school. The club goes out on Wednesdays. o r g A n i z At i o n S A n d c l u b S RoboTICs Founded 2000 Mr. Chip Finck Mr. Martin Funk WINNETKA Are you interested in engineering? Do you like to build things? Do you enjoy operating machines using remote-control? Come to Robotics Club where you will join a team to design, build, operate, and program a robot to compete against other robots from schools around the country to complete challenging tasks. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. RUssIan Founded 1995 Mr. Boris Spektor WINNETKA The mystique of Russia and the Russian soul awaits you! If you are “crazy” and like borscht, then come and experience Russian Club. Russian movies, music and dinners at local restaurants will keep the group busy! sCHolasTIC bowl Founded circa 1977 Ms. Carolyn Gerhardt WINNETKA Scholastic Bowl is a team competition that follows a format similar to Jeopardy! Students match wits with other teams from across the state and country on subjects ranging from Astronomy to Sports, Social Studies to Pop Culture, and everything in between. This is an IHSA sponsored competition, complete with Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. Come out and put your expertise to the test. sCIenCe olYMPIaD Founded 1986 Mr. Alex Howe (Varsity) Dr. Rob Credo (JV) WINNETKA Dr. Nicole Hoefling (Freshman) NORTHFIELD The Mission statement for Science Olympiad is “Victory through teamwork; Knowledge through competition; Passion through science.” The Science Olympiad teams prepare for and compete in a robust Invitational season finishing with a Regional, State and National Competition. Students who make up the Varsity and JV Teams prepare to compete in 23 challenging events. On-site lab work is accomplished in events such as Physics Lab, Forensics, and Chemistry Lab. The events can be paper and pencil tests in the diverse areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. Some events require knowledge of science facts like Fermi Questions, and others focus on concept and process skills. Technology and building events such as Wright stuff (plane) and Electric Vehicle, Sounds of Music, and Robot Ramble fit the bill for those who like to build things and tinker and experiment with their creations. The season runs from the end of September through May. If you want to have fun and make some lifelong friends, this is the club for you.
senIoR senaTe Founded 1909 Dr. Chris Pearson Ms. Cindee Scott WINNETKA Senior class officers meet with adviser room representatives each week to plan a variety of events in support of the senior class service project. The Senior Senate organizes the annual Winter Carnival, a major fundraiser for the class project. Senior Senate creates other social and charitable events and provides leadership for the class throughout the year. sHabbona PaRK Ms. Meg Beeler Ms. Melanie Calhoun WINNETKA At Shabbona Park NT Students play sports with mentally and physically challenged adult Special Olympic athletes, helping them train for their next event. No athletic ability is required, just the ability to make friends and have a good time. sHaKesPeaRe Founded 2009 Ms. Wendy Parks WINNETKA Friends, Trevians, Countrymen, lend me your ears! Join Shakespeare Club, which meets weekly to celebrate the most distinguished poet and playwright of the English language. This appreciation group explores and celebrates everything Shakespeare through meetings and events at school and then heightens student exposure to the Bard by attending several area Shakespeare productions both in film and on stage. We welcome the serious, the silly, the noble players and the humble philosophers alike into our casual midst as we consider how Shakespeare’s world shaped his words, and how his words still shape our world today. “We Shakespeare, do you? If not, would you like to?” sHoUT oUT loUD Founded 2009 Ms. Stacey Buell WINNETKA Shout Out Loud (SOL) is an after school club that uses art to promote social interaction between students with special needs and their general education peers. Our goal is to foster friendships through artistic expression. The club is open to all students — mainstream and all differently abled — who are interested in making new friends and exploring the arts. The club makes use of videos, sees plays dealing with sign language or deafness, participates in deaf culture activities and sponsors an awareness day to better educate students about communication with the hearing impaired. Learn a new language and make real use of it! snowboaRD & sKI Founded circa 1995 Mr. Jamie Atwell Mr. Peter Plaza WINNETKA Strap your feet to a board and ride a half pipe with the Snowboard / Ski Club. Everyone is welcome to participate in these winter activities by traveling with the group to “hot” snow spots in the Midwest! So, whether you are a complete novice to the sport or a master snowslider, come hit the slopes! soCIal seRVICe Founded 1971 Mr. Spiro Bolos Dr. Tom Kucharski WINNETKA Ms. Virginia Nguyen Ms. Julie Novak NORTHFIELD Volunteering is a New Trier tradition. If you are looking to get involved and meet new people, join us! Social Service allows students to volunteer at more than 15 different organizations in the Chicago area. While having a good time, you will also develop important leadership skills and make meaningful connections with others. It’s an AWESOME group and you’re guaranteed to have a lot of fun. Social service embodies the third element of the New Trier motto, “…to commit lives to the service of humanity.” We believe service is more than simply making a donation. Service requires time and personal involvement. We hope you will join us! sPanIsH Founded 1924 Mr. Josue Polanco WINNETKA Spanish Club welcomes all students with an interest in the Spanish language or Spanishspeaking lands. The club provides a forum for students to experience firsthand some of the Hispanic/Latino cultural heritage that Chicago offers. After school excursions to museums, restaurants, theatres, cinema occur on a regular basis.
