Come learn the basics of hand building, give the potter’s wheel a try or improve the skills you already have! Make presents of pottery and sculpture for friends and family. No experience necessary. Want to get your hands dirty? Come to Mudslingers! MUsIC foR KIDs TBA WINNETKA Do you play cello, violin, or viola and want to share your love of music?! Music for Kids is a social service organization; students travel to Peirce Elementary School on the north side of Chicago every Tuesday to provide music lessons for elementary students. The organization focuses on string lessons and music theory classes. New Trier students have the opportunity to work either with small groups or one-on-one with children who are eager to learn about music!!! The time commitment is typically from 3:30 PM - 5:45 PM. MUTHos Founded 2007 Mr. Andrew Docktor NORTHFIELD Muthos is a club that promotes creative writing and literary awareness on the Freshman Campus. This group sponsors various writing contests and activities such as poetry slams throughout the year. We also collect student submissions of poems, stories, essays, and art to include in year-round, online publications. You don’t need to be a good writer to be on the Muthos Board; you just need an interest in reading, writing and expressing yourself creatively. Meetings are held after school each week. We hope you join us! o r g A n i z At i o n S A n d c l u b S NEW TRIER NEWS & EXAMINER Founded 1904, 1999 Mr. Carlo Trovato WINNETKA New Trier’s major student newspaper is created and published by New Trier seniors who have, in their sophomore or junior year, completed a year-long course in journalism and moved from this apprentice period as reporters to editorships in their senior year. One of only a handful of high school newspapers published weekly, the News offers an opportunity for a wide variety of interests in communications, from writing and editing to photography and layout. The News is also online at www.newtriernews.org and has featured articles on the Wilmette and Winnetka Patch sites. In addition, the editors also publish the New Trier Examiner, a four page paper that looks in-depth at a student-related issue, such as school violence or drug abuse, in each issue. The Examiner is published about four times a year. The News has won top national awards: The All American citation from the National Scholastic Press Association and the George Gallup Award from Quill and Scroll. new TRIeR saTIRICal newsPaPeR Founded 2011 Ms. Leslie Skizas Mr. Chris Oetter WINNETKA Recently criticized as New Trier’s most inflammatory news source, The New Trier Satirical Newspaper Club is committed to providing every student with a creative outlet to test the limits of school-sanctioned humor. Our publication, “The Near True News,” lampoons everything about local and intergalactic news. If you want the opportunity to both express your writing talent and rise in status from zero to hero, the New Trier Satirical Newspaper Club is waiting. Carpe Porta Nigra. noRTHsHoRe UnIVeRsITY HealTHsYsTeMs sTUDenT boaRD Founded 2009 TBA WINNETKA The NorthShore University HealthSystems Student Board is a group of New Trier students who work in partnership with NorthShore University HealthSystems Hospitals. Through fundraising and volunteer work, members improve the lives of underprivileged and uninsured children ages 0-18 throughout the Chicagoland area. Members also receive the opportunity to meet professionals in the medical field and tour various hospital departments. onwaRD HoUse Ms. Yvonne Blair WINNETKA This social service group tutors children one day each week after school on the North side of Chicago. The kids love their tutors and our volunteers have a wonderful time. oUT of THe boX Founded 2001 Mr. Tim Kajfez WINNETKA Are you interested in “thinking out of the box?” Through unique excursions and speaker presentations, this club encourages students to view the world and themselves from a variety of perspectives. Get out of your conventional mind-frame! PaInTball Founded 2002 Mr. Nathan Silvers WINNETKA New Trier Paintball Club is a paint-popping good time. The club promotes teamwork, teaches strategy, and encourages total paintball mayhem.
PeeR HelPInG Founded 1990 Dr. Tom Golebiewski WINNETKA Peer Helping is a prevention program that promotes the development of communication and group leadership skills. Students meet three times per week for training, leading to involvement in a number of service projects. One of the primary projects is transition activities; the purpose is to help students experience the social and emotional changes in high school in a positive way. Informational and educational programs are planned throughout the year. PeP ClUb Founded 1955 Ms. Bridget Butterly WINNETKA Ms. Kathy Heublein NORTHFIELD Pep Club is a leadership organization dedicated to raising and promoting school spirit through the active support of all clubs, teams, organizations, staff and students. Its primary mission is to engage in activities that infuse students and staff with school pride and celebrate the school’s achievements. Pep Club members on both campuses plan and execute Staff Appreciation events, promote “blue & green days” and participate in Spring Fest. At Northfield, members also: plan and execute all Homecoming Week activities and the freshman dance, pep rallies, the Freshman Spring Mixer, and choose a yearly service project. At Winnetka, students: determine the Homecoming theme and decorations, design and sell the annual spirit shirt, sponsor the annual Spirit Award, and plan various other spirit activities. Freshmen have the opportunity to participate in weekly club meetings and apply for board membership. At Winnetka, the club meets 3 times a week during 9th period and students can be members of the board. Pep Club is always looking for new, enthusiastic Trevians interested in spreading spirit. Our laid back and friendly atmosphere welcomes all different skill levels; from start up games up for fierce competition or volleying back and forth for fun. Join us in the Student Lounge! PoeTRY slaM Founded 1999 Mr. John O’Connor WINNETKA Like to write? Want to compete in the world’s largest teen poetry festival, Louder than a Bomb? Come to Poetry Slam Club. All students and all words are welcome. PolIsH aMeRICan Founded 2003 Mr. Peter Plaza WINNETKA The Polish American Club was founded to create an awareness of the growing Polish community at New Trier. Club activities include participation in International Day, fundraising for students in Poland, and social events that focus on Polish culture. All are welcome! PoweRlIfTInG Founded 2011 Mr. Jim Davis WINNETKA The New Trier Powerlifting Club provides a competitive outlet for anyone interested in strength training. We compete as members of the Natural Athlete Strength Association – a national, drug-free powerlifting union. Divisions are determined by age, gender, and weight. Classes range from 114lbs to 308lbs - providing an opportunity for all athletes, all sizes to compete. Club meetings focus on the design of training programs to fit each athlete’s specific needs, as well as reviewing the strict technique required in judged competition. If you want to add competition to your strength regimen - this is the club for you!
